Dream After Dream... W-O-W.

I just got back from listening to Journey's Dream After Dream album (again), and I must say-- even though this album has probably been discussed before-- that this is without a doubt the most beautiful piece of music Journey has ever created. I'm not even kidding. The dreamy, airy, haunting atmosphere it creates; the beautiful use of symphonics/orchestra instruments... the mostly-restrained yet majestic, beautiful vocals... the gorgeous guitar-work... it's all absolutely perfect.

And yet, despite the beautiful music that resides within this album, I am not even sure if it is readily available in the United States-- and of course, casual fans probably don't even know it exists. Dream After Dream remains a small, odd footnote in Journey's catalogue where in a perfect world it should have been an album upon which their later albums should have been built off of. And that, my friends, is a crime.

In layman's terms... this album kicks way too much ass to be ignored, and while I still enjoy their mainstream material (Frontiers-- with the original, rejected tracklist-- is my second-favorite Journey album, and Infinity, which still has one foot in more symphonic territory, is tied with it), I wish Journey created more albums similar to it. Because GODDAMN what an album.

ok, worship over. Have at it.

Too gooey and dreamy, imo. I got the songs off Napster years ago. Not the way that I like Journey at all.

Gooey as in... cheesy?! Because if that's what you mean, I don't see any saccharine, overwrought, or contrived writing on Dream After Dream. It's far more progressive than usual, though, so if that's what you're referring to, then yes; this album would be harder to listen to if you're more used to Journey's usual material I suppose. V :P V

I love "Dream after Dream" as well. I bought it a couple years ago (import) before I heard any of the songs, except for "Little Girl". It has that transitory, ethereal quality that I love.

Indeed!!!! Unfortunately, I have to be in just the right mood to listen to it
and I've only experienced that mood 2 or 3 times. I do appreciate
what a great piece of work this is

I agree 100%. It's beautiful music, but one that will put you right to sleep. I won't tell you the story of what happened when I had the CD on in my car...too bad I don't have one of those Lexus vehicles with the facial recognition where it will alert you when you doze off.

Little Girl
Destiny
Sandcastles

Good.

The rest, not so much. "Little Girl" rates as one of Journeys BEST songs. They should've released that as a single over here. Flawless tune.

I dunno, I think the instrumental tracks are great, too. And I never fall asleep or want to whilst listening to this, either....

Then again, I never want to fall asleep when listening to Pink Floyd either, and they have some really drawn out stuff, so maybe I just like really drawn out atmospheric prog. :P
