Rock's Biggest Quitters: Perry listed

Not sure if this has been posted yet. Perry is listed with this blurb about half way down the list. Don't know if they are necessarily ranked, but thought it was interesting who else made the list:

Steve Perry

Steve Perry Quits Journey:

Steve Perry led Journey from 1978 until he and the band went their "separate ways" in 1987. Despite early solo success with 'Oh Sherrie,' by 1995 he was ready to resume knocking out power ballads with his former bandmates. Perry retuned to the sidelines after a 1998 hip injury -- and has since been replaced by pint-sized Filipino karaoke star Arnel Pineda -- but if he asked nicely, the band would surely welcome him back with "open arms."

The worst kind of quitter - quit on his band, fans, and himself. Doesn't care and doesn't try.

Terrible choice of photography. The person who deserves to be pictured with Perry in that pic is Steve Augeri. 8 long years that kept the touring machine going is something that must not go unnoticed, and it is. Shameshame.

To me that article is really bias, I understand who they are intending to put down there. Serously if I were a member of Journey and SP wanted to come back, I'd audition him, have him sing some tunes, then after he's been humiliated enough since he can't sing anymore, I'd say thanks but no thanks, we got someone who sings great and won't flake out on us when we want to do music.

However, if Journey did bring SP back and things went "south" again like they did before with SP and Journey, I'd be one of the members here LMAO. To replace AP with SP now, that's beyond stupidity and they would be just begging for something to go wrong doing it.

Everyone would like things to be the way they used to be, myself included. Unfortunately, what you have posted is probably closer to what the reality would be. Because I already know this, it makes it easier to move on with the band and love the music that Mr. Perry has left us with, while also enjoying what we have now. There is a lot of light ahead. :D

I got into Prince's music in the late 80's. The last great album he put out though I'm sure was Purple Rain. Since that album, I have absolutely zero use for any of Prince's music now.

No way. Show me what you have contributed to the rock world, and then we will compare it against what Steve Perry has contributed. I can assure you that you will be the one looking like a quitter... you probably never even got started.

If I was Steve Perry, I would be extremely proud of what I gave to my fans, and I wouldn't feel the least bit indebted to anyone to give them anything more. Perry gave willingly... how can you fault him because he won't give any more? He hasn't betrayed his fans, and he hasn't betrayed himself. He did what he did, and he did it better than any singer I have ever heard. He should be walking around patting himself on the back all day long. I am very happy with what he gave, and he doesn't owe me or anyone else anything more. Even if he wanted to give more... maybe he doesn't have the voice? Should he be ashamed of that?

Quitter? That's not one of the words that come to my mind when I think of Steve Perry. He's still living his life... not the one we want him to live.

He's actually got some very cool stuff. However, his albums are THE MOST inconsistent of any artist ever. Check out his Batman soundtrack, and do a youtube search for the song "Peach". Both are great.

Great post Voyager! There is a huge difference between "quitting" and deciding that you've given as much as you are able to give and would like a chance to have a different life. SP missed out on spending more time with his dying mother to write and produce a Journey album - how many of you would sacrifice time with a dying loved one to go to work when you don't have to? He could have kept living the life of a rock star, but left the road and took care of his dying grandfather instead. That's not quitting in my book.

I certainly respect his right to choose what he wants to do with his life and if not spending it with two guys most of the people on MR call names I'd rather not repeat is one of them, then so be it! I miss him in Journey too, but I appreciate what he gave of himself and while he was with Journey he gave his all.
