October 15, 2009 - LIVE IN MANILA DVD DEBUTS AT # 1 ON THE MUSIC DVD CHART
Film Capturing Filipino Singer's Triumphant Homecoming has 2nd Best Debut Sales Week of 2009

Journey's two-DVD Live In Manila, capturing the band's historic concert in Manila, Philippines earlier this year, debuts at the top of Billboard's Top Music Video Sales chart , marking the first time the band has topped this chart. Journey's 2005 release Live In Houston 1981 - The Escape Tour peaked at number nine.

Performing more than two hours' worth of classic favorites, as well as new hits from the band's latest album Revelation, Live In Manila documents the triumphant homecoming of the band's singer Arnel Pineda on March 14, 2009.

Neal Schon, Jonathan Cain, Ross Valory, and Deen Castronovo returned to Pineda's homeland in March to introduce him as their new lead singer to a crowd of nearly 30,000. By the time of the Manila concert, more than 800,000 copies of Revelation - the band's first album with Arnel - had been sold, and were supported with sold-out shows all over the world.

The Live In Manila DVD, like Revelation, is being sold exclusively at Walmart in North America.

I can't even imagine how well it would have sold had it been available. By all accounts, it was not available at about half of the Wal Marts. Week 2 should be strong as well.

Yeah that is pretty remarkable considering the distribution woes. Too bad the disc itself ain't that great. I'm gonna watch Rush R30 tonight I think

I'm hearing a rumor (and I think it's just that) that there will eventually be a Blu-Ray version available...and people are saying Christmas...right when sales from the current version stop. That would be some shady shit. But I like it...gives the bitchers something to whine about.

This all goes to vindicate Neal and the band's bitching back in the early-mid 00s about Sony giving them a raw deal promotionally, at least to a large extent. Granted that now in 2009 80s music has probably made a bigger comeback and is more palatable to a larger audience this far removed from the 90s, but it's a chicken-egg problem. What came first, the resurgence or the promotion?

I've been saying that, but I think I'll just suck it up and go look for the DVD. I hate that place, maybe I'll keep my phonecam ready so I can contribute to the "People of Walmart" site. :x

I wish I had a Blu-ray player. I'm not satisfied with the quality of Manila at all - that's what watching too much HD television will do to you.

Good to see the band enjoying their second wind.
It's def. been a long time coming.
To think, just a few years back, charting anywhere in the mid-50s would've been considered a success.

On an unrelated note...this customer purchased the dvd and got a gay porn instead.
Anywhere hear about this yet?
Seems it even made the local news.

I've heard of that happening once before in my hometown. How does that even happen?

Inside job....that's how it happened. Much like that time in I believe the 80's when Toys-R-Us had that issue where a Ken doll was dressed up in Barbie's undergarments. After everyone down at the plant was jumping through their asses trying to figure out how the mix up occured, they found out that a "funny" Toys-R-Us employee did it one night while stocking the shelves.

Definitely a huge accomplishment - #1 is great news. But, why won't they ever put any behind the scenes footage on their live DVD's???? Just watched the new Foreigner DVD - tons of behind the scenes and very fan friendly. Many have asked for tours of Neal's rig, backstage stuff, etc.... and it always falls on deaf ears. If there is a Blu Ray coming in December they should add a little something.
