9 COUNTRIES COMPETE IN WORLD PYRO OLYMPICS

THE best pyrotechnics companies from nine countries will compete at the World Pyro Olympics (WPO) at the Bonifacio Global City, Taguig City, on Nov. 21, 28, Dec. 5, and 12, with a grand finale on Dec. 19, featuring the Philippines’ very own La Mancha Group International (LMGI).

For five weekends, these pyrotechnics experts from South Korea, China, Germany, Australia, Japan, Italy, Canada, United States, and defending champion Italy will dazzle the Filipino audience at the WPO which carry a more exciting, musical format.

Japan’s Marutamaya, has been in the business since 1864, while China’s Glorious Entertainment Production Ltd. has been firing since the 1920s. Marutamaya now fires for Tokyo Disneyland while Glorious’ firepower is a staple at the opening and closing ceremonies of Asian games.

Italy’s Parente Fireworks was founded 100 years ago. Recently they were showcased at the opening and closing ceremonies of the 20th Winter Olympic Games in Turin and have set the record for the longest pyrotechnics display -- a 14-kilometer show in Venice.

Pyro Studios of Canada, a winner at the Monaco Fireworks Competition, will amaze the Pinoy audience by setting their fireworks to the music of the band Journey where Filipino Arnel Pineda is the frontman.

Remote Effects Systems (RES) Specialty Pyrotechnics, representing the U.S., is an industry doing at least 250 shows annually, while Australia’s Explosive Productions Pty Ltd has participated in international competitions in Italy and South Africa, among others.
