Question to Jeremy that he doesn't have to answer...

Have you made much from your writing credit on Rev?

Just curious.

Yeah there is, a private message "PM" which Jer can decide what he wants to respond with. A public thread isn't the way to get a real answer.

But since its open for discussion now, I'd say Jer's pretty happy with the results. AFAIK, he hasn't had to go back to a regular job and is doing what he loves.

Just keep the wig off Jer and you'll be fine! :D

Or maybe being able to incorporate his band and tour nationally full-time, but hey, that's about the same right? How many writing credits did Arnel have on Revelation again?

True, even then though, it's just such a taboo subject with most people...

I'd hate to be one of those public figures with all my salary details and financials very easily accessible... ok, maybe an athlete or a sports coach wouldn't be so bad, but anything else... that'd suck.

Hey shit fer brains....what does Arnel have to do with the question that was asked or my answering in jest?
I doubt helping write one song on one album pays very much. It's not like it was written any huge band or anything.

My guess is: a nice bonus, but not enough for any significant life changes.

The real money in licensing...use in ads, TV shows, movies, etc. If the song became a big hit outside of record sales, I imagine there'd be some good money, but I don't really see that happening in 2009 (even though it's a great song).

Hey fuckhead, Arnel has eveyrthing to do with it since you implied writing a great song is a walk in the park. He must really suck if he couldn't even write one, huh? I know it's hard to take knocks on the object of your filipino homoerotic desires, but calm down and write something I can comprehend. Then maybe you can stick to talking about things you know something about, which are limited to and include only the following:

1. The status of Arnel's asshole - shaved? lightly patched?
2. The status of Arnel's stool - Partially digested rice? Corn bits? (thanks stevew2)..
3. The status of Arnel's hair - Who cares
4. The 10 songs on Revelation, 5 of which suck

Conspicuously absent here are the notable topics of Steve Perry, JSS, Augeri, Jeremey, and anything else of any substance or importance.

EDIT: oh and please don't play it off like you were lightheartedly joking. Context is everything and we all know what this passive aggressive bullshit meant coming from you, of all people

30 years later, Gerry Rafferty still makes around $150,000 a year off of Baker Street. There's a reason Perry hasn't had to work or whore the music out to every commercial request that comes along.

I'm going to take a guess based on suggested units sold, one third writing credit , seven dollars per disc royalty rate with Walmart and a few other factors.

I'll say so far it's 45 thousand for Jeremey and Augeri and 350,000 for Perry.

Just to clarify, this is no more than total nonsical speculation on my part.

Pretty sad really. A true artist would fume at being locked out of the writing process. I hope Arnel fights tooth and nail to get involved in the writing process and shows us he's got something to bring to the table. That is, if he wants/can write. If he can't or won't, then he deserves every bit of pejorative karaoke singer type stuff that gets lobbed at him.

Writing is what separates an awesome musician from an awesome artist. Don't believe me anyone? Just go on YouTube and search for guitar videos. There's so many guys that can make Neal or insert good famous guitarist X look average in the technique department. But they're sitting there filming themselves in their bedroom. Why? Because they can't touch people with their writing.

Go watch some of the video clips of Arnel from his recent Pinoy TV appearances. Bags under his eyes, a little of his build diminished, the guy looks beat which really makes me believe there will be no Journey tour this year.

If Journey want's to keep this guy around, why haven't they bought out his contract from Bert De Leon?

Serving two masters will be the ruin of Pineda.

Not trying to slam Arnel, but a "real" artists would have never joined a 30 year old band on their 6th singer (by my count anyway... could be wrong!). I guarantee that he has no input on what is played, or what is written. He's getting paid to live out his dreams. Not trying to sound like an asshole here, but he was in his 40's as a lounge singer... Just saying.

'Cause they don't want to ever be tied down to one singer again lest he catch the dreaded "LSD".

Disagree, you can be a "real" artists but if you're starving you're gonna take any gig you can. In this case he hit the jackpot and the gig was worldwide fame, and hopefully enough money to never have to work again after the Jboyzz are done.

I'm sure he's not gigging the Pinoy shows out of need or greed. Like GB said, probably contract or charity obligations.

Perry had a band, the band dissolved. He took a day job. Herbie called and he signed on the dotted line. If Herbie hadn't called, he'd probably start gigging local bands for a while. Perry didn't join Journey for just artistic reasons.

I guess Jeff Scott Soto wasn't a real artist joining a band on their fifth singer. Okay . . . . . Thanks for clarifyng that.

BTW, Arnel did release two albums, one right b/f Neal hired him and was promoting it at the time. Whether they were good or not I don't know, but my point is he wasn't just a "lounge singer" and had dreams creatively also, even still at 40.

Several counterpoints to this obnoxious post   :

- So you're the guy that determines how many singers a band can have before all others are basically voided? Interesting. Glad I know that now.

- Who gives a shit if he has input or not. Journey is a band and however they decide to conduct the writing process makes no fucking difference to me as long as the outcome yields great music. For the sake of argument, if you found out that Perry (this is obviously impossible) never wrote one lyric for Journey, would it change the songs for you in any way? It sure as shit wouldn't for me. Do you have some sort of erotic mind's eye view of the guys during the writing process that affects the way you hear the songs? Homo!

- Let's not forget were Arnel was living. There's a massive difference between a guy living in the United States as a "lounge singer in his 40's" and a guy 10,000 miles away. That could have been Steve Perry and he would have been doing the exact same thing Arnel was...waiting for a break. You're comparing apples and nut sacks.
