I honestly didn't think he was that good at all, and never quite got the ongoing fascination with this guy. I thought the band around him was even worse than he was. On another note, I just watched that wingnut Hugo perform the same song on youtube. While his band was FAR better than the crew Chalfant had surrounding him, he's another guy I don't get, AT ALL. Sure...he's up there trying to look like Perry, but that's about it. He stands still on stage like his feet are stuck in cement and his voice has ZERO power. Hell, it almost sounds like he's trying to sing DSB at a tempo that is dialed WAY back, so as not to expose his deficiencies as a singer! He also sounds like he's concentrating FAR to much to mimic Perry's tonality, but tonality isn't enough. The song needs fucking power. Halloween is over dude. Put the fucking costume away and go sing something else! Augeri can tell you what happens when you try to sing songs that your voice simply can't handle!

Arnel's the right choice, period, in the now. I like Chalfant but it's just as boring as Augeri's version, and I love Augeri as a singer.

Chalfant's version was so boring, and the band was boring. Though, Chalfant has a nice voice.

I have never seen this, live or otherwise, as I left the auditorium when KC started singing Journey songs. Not very long after the 'dismissal' and with Jeff in the room to top it off.

I will view it now because I think you could be wrong about the band--lemmee go and see. brb

You're obviously FAR more tuned in to who the characters are in Chalfant's band are than I will ever be. All I can judge is what my ears are listening to and to my ears, that band sucked ass! The guy trying to play Neal's DSB jam after the first verse was a fucking horror show and the backup vocals were DREADFUL!

Augeri kicked ass ,toured longer than Steve Perry, without a break what so ever .He handled it pretty good till the band got money hungry and they try to fool the fans, and over booked the band cause they are whores. They booked a tour with a singer with no voice, and with nothing but tapes to back him .When you slam Augeri, you will always get the truth from me about what really happened, I was there. He could have still been the lead singer for Journey if Friga and Neal wasnt so fuckin selfish, fuck them

Right, and Don Strock (Dan Marino's backup for 15 years) did it longer than Peyton Manning so he must be better. Put the fucking crack pipe down dude. I don't care if Augeri pretended to sing this fucking catalog for 25 years. That doesn't change the fact that he sucked when it came to even attempting to hit the notes in the back catalog. Even when he wasn't pretending to sing, he was struggling mightily in spite of the Augeri ball washers' assertion to the contrary. I will never blame Augeri for his shortcomings, because he never should have been hired, but his fans are fucking delusional whinebags, annoying, and fucking clueless!

As Augeri fan your post is straight to the point. To correct Stevew2 Augeri did not tour longer than Perry, take a look at the Infinity to Departure tour schedule.

Sadly, Chalfant's window of opportunity with the band seems over.
There's no denying, however, that in their downtime post-ROR, and once again after TBF, he was the guy for the job.
Hell, even Herbie, the creator of the band, hand picked him.
Doesn't get much more open and shut than that.
Just a tremendous missed opportunity for the band, Kevin, and the fans.

I think Chalfant was judged more from his own material with The Storm than his Journey versions--which admittedly, nobody heard with the exception of the 2 songs that The Storm played live. Chalfant never was a Perry clone, and his original material proves that. Perry crossed with Bryan Adams vocally would be closer. He could do Journey if he wanted to (and given a full tour to get used to it, he would improve considerably as both Augeri, Arnel and JSS did), but Chalfant was more than solid on his own. That's what everyone saw--the potential for new material, not how well he could cover Perry.

No different than The Zoo videos with Arnel. Put Chalfant with a red-hot band behind him, and you would see the same jump in quality.

Hmm...I never noticed this till now...Hugo definitely does not have power. The song appears to be the exact tempo. If you wanted it to be easier to sing you would speed it up (like Journey did in 83-86). Slowing songs down makes them alot harder to sing. Think about it. If it's slower, the notes are longer. Faster, the notes are shorter.

It's more complicated than that. Faster song also means more high notes spaced closer together --> harder to sing.
Pick the correct tempo, and the song is comparatively "easy" to sing. Move it too far in either direction and it becomes more difficult.

Chalfant looks like he's in his early fifties. Is he? His voice couldn't hold up to Journey touring I wouldn't think anyway and singing that catalogue of music.

Oh, I think his time has passed by for him to be a viable choice for Journey. It would have worked in 1993, and it would have worked in 1998. In 2006, he wouldn't have been a good choice for that very reason.

Why in the heck is KC singing Journey music anyway? He was never a member of Journey and always a wannabe. He needs to sing his own songs and leave Journey stuff alone. Decent voice, but he's too freakin ugly to be the face of Journey.

Kevin is better than anyone out there, other than Perry, to sing Journey songs. That means Hugo, JSS, and Augeri are wannabes too? Hugo is the closest to a wanna be. But all 4 have great cds out of their own music
Chaflant-both Storm cd, the first Two Fires, Shadow's fade, Running With Wind
JSS-WET, Lost In Translation, Prism
Hugo, Hugo, both Valentine cds, and his cd with Ramos
Augeri-his 1st and 3rd Journey cd, both Tall Stories cd and Tyketto's-Shine

Since when does looks have anything to do with it, look at the new guy, the worst of the Journey lead singer and wanna bes

I don't know, man.
Consider these credentials -
KC was picked by Herbie to replace Perry
KC fronted a Journey spin-off band that involved the talents of Journeymen Smitty, Valory, and Rolie
KC stood-in for Perry when Journey performed at Herbie's birthday bash
KC briefly wrote with Neal and Jon before the TBF reunion
Factor all that together and it seems to me that KC is almost as much a legitimate Journey member as Arnel.
At the very least, he's part of the extended family.
Unlike Arnel, or Augeri for that matter, who both came out of seemingly nowhere, KC and the band have roots.

I think the next tour should include Steve Perry, Arnel Pineda, Steve Augeri, JSS, Jeremey Hunsicker, Kevin Chalfant, and Hugo Valentine. (Did I miss anyone?)

This way they won't have to use any backup vocal backtracks anymore, and Perry won't have to be the only lead singer. No one will blow out their voice, and they could take turns singing the songs they do best. The only problem would be too many paychecks, so that idea would never fly with NEal.

Jim you gotta remember I am joking around half the time when I post on here.

Actually, this time I was dead serious. They should also add Glee to the tour to sing DSB. Neal won't mind footing the bill, he's loaded.
