Indeed ... she's adorable & how cool to be singing with your famous dad and doing a bang-up job of it.

I don't know about all that. It wouldn't kill her to smile. Like father, like daughter in that regard.

she didnt smile off the stage either. :( i kinda felt bad for her, she didnt seem to want to be there. faith hill is hard to cover. maybe something more fun and age appropriate would have been better for her first time at the xtravaganza.

That's what I was thinking. All I could hear was Faith's version in my head the whole time Madison was singing.

Isn't she like 15? At that age I was barely verbal with family and forget about interacting with anyone else. Of course, I'm not a whole lot better now.

I think it's great that she's going after her dream; the early days are a struggle for everyone.

I thought she had been doing little gigs for the last year or so?

Maybe, but poise, confidence, and polish take a long time to acquire, esp. if one is an introvert by nature. Think about LeAnn Rimes when she first started out compared to now. Ditto Carrie Underwood.

i believe she just turned 16. and in comparison to the 13 year old "rockers" from jersey who knocked the crowd on their butts, if this is her dream, she better get over her "shyness". and i do believe she has been doing small shows for a year now. she may get a thousand myspace fans cause her father is jon cain, but that isn't going to win over nashville or the general public.

We're just not giving her a free pass because of her age. From all accounts she plans on being a professional vocalist. Taylor, The Jonas Bros., Miley Cyrus, etc. are all around her age. Everyone is quick to trash them on this site. That hasn't even been done here with Madison.

Because she happens to a famous musician's daughter, she should be applauded for a mediocre performance? No.

Taylor's voice is average and very thin and weak live and Miley's isn't very good live either. I've been underwhelmed by both of their performances b/f compared to a studio recording. Taylor is older anyway. I give Madison good marks for her performance and strong vocals, especially adding in her age and not being an experienced professional..

his smile lit up the stage...wasn't he pretty young then?!?!

Where did I say she should be applauded for the performance? I just think people's expectations are dramatically too high for the same reason you mention, who's daughter she is. Not everyone has superstar written on them because of their heritage, and because they put themselves out there. Criticize all you like. Doesn't mean I have to agree.

I thought it was quite a good vocal, but I've never heard Faith Hill's version. I mean, she's singing a fuckin slow christmas song, you want her to jump off the monitors and get on the drum riser and rip the cymbal off and cut the drummer's throat and drink the blood while nailing a high D and throwing the metal horns?

You can tell she's nervous as hell by the slight swaying, esp w/ the performance w/ Jon. She'll get over it and she's got a GREAT voice with great control. I'm not huge on women singers in general unless they bring something special to the table like Stevie Nicks, but given the right songs, this girl could go places. Don't compare her to autotuned garbage like Miley Cyrus, please.

It's a lot tougher to be poised and have tons of showmanship when you're trying to get by on talent at 16, rather than image and corporate dreck, ala Miley and Jonas Fagols

But the voice is just waiting to be driven!!!
It does makes me wonder about those that rated Martina's perfomance so low
and this one so high...was it the age thing?!!?

From all accounts she was very at home on the stage at the Journey show in Sacramento. I figured being at a smaller gig six months later, she would be more comfortable. It's not her first time on stage, that's why I was expecting more, maybe a little smile to the crowd after they applauded her or something.

Yeah, I understand there could be so many tangibles and intangibles here. Well just view what I said as constructive criticism for an aspiring singer.

For me, I didn't rate Martina's performance low. Really good solid vocals that just didn't take the song anywhere energywise as the song built, but Martina has a beautiful texture to her voice that I like.

I thought Madison's vocals were good, not great. But for a relative newbie at 16 she had strong vocals live.

Martina being the seasoned performer she is should have brought DSB to another level than she did for that particular song.
