I currently have this tune pumping through my ipod headphones and I have to just tell ya. I EFFING LOVE THIS SONG.
It is such a superb piece of music; Perry's gorgeous vocals, the clear, crisp production...they just don't make 'em like this anymore.
And to think they omitted this from Frontiers for what... Back Talk? lol
OK, gush over. Just hadda say it.

no man, this is my favorite Journey song ever! I love Perrys vocals on this. I also dig Jeremey Hunsickers cover also, very good!
Absolutely stands the test of time.

All the singers after Perry did a really good job on this song live:
Arnel -

Steve Augeri

The mic is awfully close to his mouth, but I think this is live

I don't like that version at all or his tone on it. I don't believe OTY is one of his best songs. He excels more on Send Her My Love, Suzanne and WCTNGOF, After the Fall, and so on.

I saw Nostrildamus on the FTLOSM tour and after he opened with this song I almost walked out. It was horrendous. But he rebounded nicely and the concert was awesome. He removed that song from the set list soon after I think. That's a very difficult song to sing. I still get all amped up when it comes blaring in during Vision Quest. Great flick.

I think the arrangement is kinda cheesy.

It sounded live, but I couldn't tell with the mic so close and the timeframe.
Here's the only other live vocal from Steve Augeri I could find on OTY. Sounds good. Live audio from 2002.

Really don't like Deen's drumming, but SA is awesome in that track. Really crisp vocals.

I think it's been established by the resident experts here (Deano, et al) that everything '05-06 with SA and his big mic that the shows were canned. SA was actually singing into the mic...but, apparently, only to himself as the audience was listening to another (better) version over the sound systems. I think that's what went down. Nobody's seems to want to talk about tapegate, anymore.

Both songs are estrogen-filled, chest-thumping songs. Love the SP-sung recorded versions. Unfortunately, by the time he sung it live (ROR tour), his vocal range had diminished. Just doesn't sound like the record anymore.
