It's ok, I believe you. This is not exactly earth shattering news, as this has been planned and talked about for some time. :D

Duh, I guess I could have looked for the Neal Schon with something like a ba-zillion friends. Forgive me. I'm new to Facebook & I'm feeling dumber about it everyday. One of my close buds recently said to me, "Dude, Facebook? Really? Isn't that for teenagers? Just pick up the phone & call me. It's much easier." I see his point.... but I don't necessarily agree with it. I'm drifting the conversation here a little, but I find it interesting the different perceptions people have about Facebook. Some people say, "I only friend the people I know in real life b/c the world's full of nutjobs & why would I want to 'talk' with people I don't even know?" Other people,... (I fall into this second category).... feel like, "Why friend the people I know in real life when I see them every day? And if I don't actually see them, I at least have contact with them via cell phone." Different strokes for different folks, I suppose. :P

Some of every album rockers, then Cain pokes his head in. Since I somehow can't see Neal coming up with a bunch of ballads, Cain has to be the culprit.

When it comes to ballads you'd be hard pressed to find anyone that does them better than Journey.

Schon does ballads. I think he just doesn't like the album to be ballad heavy. I remember K. Shirley saying when Neal complained about the ballads on Arrival, KS said something to the effect "look whose name is all over them"

Arrival songwriters again.

1. "Higher Place" Jack Blades, Neal Schon 5:10
2. "All the Way" Schon, Jonathan Cain, Michael Rhodes, Steve Augeri 3:35
3. "Signs of Life" Schon, J. Cain, Elizabeth Cain 4:54
4. "All the Things" Schon, Cain, Andre Pessis 4:24
5. "Loved By You" Cain, Tammy Hyler, Tribble 4:03
6. "Livin' to Do" Schon, Matt Schon, Cain, Tribble 6:25
7. "World Gone Wild" Blades, Schon, Cain 6:00
8. "I Got a Reason" Blades, Schon, Cain 4:20
9. "With Your Love" Schon, J. Cain, E. Cain 4:25
10. "Lifetime of Dreams" Schon, Cain, Tribble 5:29
11. "Live and Breathe" Schon, Cain, Augeri 5:15
12. "Nothin' Comes Close" Schon, Cain, Augeri 5:41
13. "To Be Alive Again" Cain, Augeri, Tribble, Eric Bazilian 4:22
14. "Kiss Me Softly" Blades, Schon, Augeri 4:48
15. "We Will Meet Again" Schon, Augeri, Tribble 5:06

Schon writing credits - 13
Cain writing credits - 13

Doesn't everyone, every band, say that? Humming into a recorder, doing acoustic chord changes, tossing around lyrics, etc. Isn't that enough to throw a tidbit at the fans by saying "we're writing" while on the road?

And take this "heading back to SF for a new cd" thing with a huge grain of rock salt too. Just because someone is playing with ideas doesn't necessarily mean that they're doing real writing. Maybe there are sketches & drafts, but until they get into studio in album mode with a producer, I wouldn't get your nads in a pump.

No mention of Pineda. Perhaps they'll still drop his name on a few credits just to appease his fans. It's not like there are monster royalties coming from any of Journey songs written after 1986 anyway.

What about Neal's solo album or his first ever solo tour? Talk seems to have died down about those endeavors.

So, are you already making an excuse in case Arnel does write something really good for the new CD? As I remember that was your criteria for him being more than just a good sound alike and getting credit as a contributor.

As far as a mention of Arnel, I thought Neal brought up a while ago that he and Arnel were writing. Now he is writing with Cain allegedly, one doesn't discount the other.

I don't need to make an excuse for him. I listened to his original music and know what to expect from him in that department. If you remember in the interviews where Cain has talked about creating music with Perry, lyrics were only half the game with them. There magic came from constructing a melody around what they were writing also. I would think being in the same room together, writing a song and composing it at the same time is where you are going to get the best collaborations.
As far as criteria for contributing, I would hold any singer to the same standard. I noticed right away that Kelly Hansen had at least 10 writing credits on Foreigner's new album. if he hadn't I would have been critical of it.

I don't give Arnel credit for anything the band achieved before his tenure, the same way I don't give Augeri any credit for anything Pre-Arrival. Besides their voices, the only thing they can bring to the band is their writing ability and that is what I judge them on. I'm not giving therm extra credit for saving the band, blowing their voice out, being homeless, etc. That has nothing to do with Journey's legacy as far as I'm concerned.

I think you missed my point, your stating that "Perhaps they'll still drop his name on a few credits just to appease his fans" seems to me, it gives you a way out in admitting that he did contribute something to the new CD, especially if its really good. I just want to be clear on your meaning.
