Wasn't Journey in the top 20 for 2008?

I'm surprised to see them finishing behind Def Lep and I'm equally suprised that Jimmy Buffett is behind Journey.

Because anyone who writes songs like this should top Journey

Really, I always thought Jimmy was a bigger draw.

Bet you a hundred bucks Buffet played a lot fewer dates than Journey. He draws huge crowds.

Secondly, where is Heart? They should be as high as Journey.

Why? They only opened for Journey a few times in 2009.

I saw them without Journey, all by themselves last summer.

My bad. Shows how much I follow Journey nowadays huh?

Anyway, this list is based on dollars, not seats sold. U2 sold tickets as high as 250 bucks whereas most the other acts were at 95 and 65. Regardless, I am somewhat surprised Journey finished 48th. I thought they would be a little higher than that at least.

Yeah I was really surprised to see Journey down so low on the list too. I thought they would be higher than Def Leppard and Motley Crue. All the concert reviews for 2009 that I read were pretty close to being sell outs here in the states. Its weird that in 2008 they were in the top 20 and in 2009 barely make the top 50. Were there less tour dates in 2009??

Journey is a band that always seem to make their prices affordable and reasonable, while alot of the other bands ask outrageous prices.

People still love Lep and the Crue...

Maybe one of our members who keeps track of all the tour dates can tell us why. Maybe Journey played less concerts in the USA than the year before. I know they didn't hit any west coast venues close to me and I saw them the year before in Spokane, Wa.

Correct. Less concerts, smaller venues for the most part. The 2009 tour was set up to mainly hit markets that they missed on the 2008 tour.

Yes, Journey played a lot of shows in 2009 but when you look at The details, it's obvious why they're not on the money list for that tour.
For one thing, they played a lot more state fairs this time around. No one is paying 200 or 300 bucks for those tickets If the show is not in an Amphitheater (Like the ones Def Leppard were playing this past summer). Also if you're not headlining at those European Festivals you don't make much from all accounts, it's more for promotion than profit. All those shows in Norway, France, Osaka, Tokyo, etc.? Less than 5,000 people per show. Sellouts sound great until you see that the venues are the City of Nagoya Central Gymnasium.

Gunbot is correct, the European festivals were more promotional than profit. Which I think paid off. Look at Journey charting again and the boys are making more money........except AP.

I hope AP is good with money. A year and a half is a long time to go without a paycheck.

I'll tell you a cool place that you can get to locally. Playa del Carmen, about 40 miles south of Cancun. I've went there with co-workers (sort of a boy's weekend out   )
Very nice without all the college kids and other stuff you get in Cancun and Tijuana. You can go snorkeling and you've got Mayan ruins close by also.

It's not bad there. Tijuana is the place where you don't want end up getting your face sewn to a soccer ball and thrown through someone's window.

You'll probably spend about a grand for a weeks stay including airfare. Totally worth it.

That's not bad at all, we are thinking of a cruise in April, maybe have to reconsider.
