A friend of mine and I have been arguing tonight at the bar about Vivian Campbell for some reason. At first he was trying to tell me that he was dead, and after convincing him that he was indeed alive, he told me that he saw Journey back in the 80's and Vivian Campbell was playing guitar because he saw him from the 3rd row. I tried to tell him that it would NEVER happen considering Campell was only 17-18 back then and that Neal would NEVER allow a Journey show to happen with a different guitar player (they'd cancel the shbow first), but he's convinced it was VC.
Since you nuts are the ultimate Journey resource, did Vivian Campbell ever play a show or a set of shows filling in for Neal Schon in the 80's?

I don't think so. He was still with Sweet Savage and after that I believe he was playing with Dio. He could have played in on some downtime, but I don't think that ever happened. I vote that your friend is wrong.

Isn't it oft-recited that Neal has literally never missed a Journey gig?

"Vivian Campbell is a fucking asshole. I hope he fucking dies." ~ Ronnie James Dio's spot on assertion and well wish.
And that creep never played in Journey.

I think your friend was discredited by thinking he was dead in the first place.

Guitar for the Practicing Musician and then Guitar One were great magazines... really miss them.
