Did Journey sack Arnel Pineda?
By ALEX VALENTIN BROSAS
February 19, 2010, 3:51pm

Journey frontman Arnel Pineda was utterly surprised over rumors that he has been sacked from the popular rock group.

According to rumors, Arnel’s contract was not renewed by the group.

Journey is also said to be lacking in gigs in the US.

The singer is clueless abut the recent controversy that befell him.

“Wala naman silang sinasabi na ganyan. Actually, I’ve been talking to our manager, si Mr. John Baron. I’m leaving on the 15th of April to record a new album. I’m still with Journey,” Arnel explained on "Showbiz News Ngayon," February 18.

As proof that he’s still very much with the band, the singer announced a big project that the group is about to finish with all of the members, him included.

“Meron kaming documentary na ilalabas right after ng paggawa namin ng album. Ano ito, life ng members ng Journey,” he said.

The documentary even had the backings of the original Queen of Talk, Oprah Winfrey.

“I heard somewhere Ms. O is planning to co-produce it, si Miss Oprah.”

On December 5, 2007, Arnel became the official lead singer of the American rock group Journey after he passed the “nerve-wracking” auditions held in Marin County, north of San Francisco.

According to a tabloid report, Arnel’s gone swell-head after his success in the international music scene.

The singer refuted this accusation. “I have never become like that,” he protested.

Hmmmmm, he said he heard somewhere, but if he isn't sure Oprah is really going to co-produce it, I don't know that he should be throwing her name out there connected to the documentary unless it's from a very reliable source that she is connected to it.

sounds like BS. Arnel has been nothing but good for the band and it's promotion.

I don't agree with that assessment Deano. I think that Jeff was way too different a sound for the band. Interesting, yes, but not able to do the old catalog, and therefore the wrong guy for the job from day one. Doesn't mean I don't like him. I do, but not for Journey and I can't believe the 'general' public woulda been that impressed. Could be wrong.

I think the rumours are bogus. I don't agree with ya Deano, but I love ya man!

Sounds totally baseless to me... when is his contract up anyway? I thought it wasn't for at least another year if not 2. Given the way this catalogue has shredded voice after voice over the years, I wouldn't expect them to enter some 10 year agreement with him after a couple of successful tours and one album.

Bah! Typical tabloid bs. To sack AP, as it were put, would be the end of the band at this point. There has been too much progress made and there are too many people who would not stand for another change. The Asian market would be gone and they would be relegated to the State Fairs with women watching, who's husbands are swillng beer and enjoying the rodeo.

The guy's voice is clearly showing no signs of wear. Listen to the stuff from the Dubai thing. It's great. He's handling it fine.

well MANY things are 'out there' about performers. If we believed them, Paul would really be dead.

I thought he was a band member now the same as Deen and Ross, so does he still have a contract with a date?

I don't understand all the inner workings of bands so I'm just curious. :?

Neal is in a great mood, in a better place it seems than he's been for years, and that's due to Arnel and their resurgence. Arnel is going nowhere, and Arnel knows he owes Neal for fighting for him and won't bail on him any time soon. I think this break is good for all of them, and 2011 will be a great year for the band.

Still an overseas foreign worker on $8.55 per hour plus per diem. j/k

Neal said AP is a full member and AP said he has no contract. I take that to mean that he is there until he either decides he doesn't want to be or he get's the boot. [unlikely]

He has no contract. That's how this got started, when he made that comment last year, and it got exaggerated what he meant and articles like this keep popping up over there every once in a while. This article has no facts anyway re that the band is lacking in gigs. Te author doesn't even know they took off the year from touring, a simple fact check.

I think the European market pays more attention to the band. On their tours of Japan in the 80s, Journey easily sold twice the amount of tickets of what this last tour did, even with the sales of Japan, RP and China combined. In 83, the two shows at the Budokan alone sold over 30,000 tickets.

Europe is where the band's future is most brightest, not the far east.
Yeah, Revelation went platinum in the Philippines but you have to remember that over there, the requirement is only 20,000 records sold for International artists. Journey's Greatest Hits is quickly surpassing that, just in the UK alone this month.

How many State fairs did Journey play this year WITH Pineda? But it was because of the economy, right? Funny, I guess AC-DC and Taylor Swift didn't get the memo on those particular venue changes.

Yeah because Journey would be touring stadiums and playing the Super bowl if Steve Perry were still in the band. Yeah, and my cock is also 22 inches. If Perry were still with the band, the instruments would all be collecting dust in their garages. This is the guy, whose only claim to fame is being "immortalized in karaoke machines across America." He's not U2, Bruce Springsteen, AC/DC or Micheal Jackson, and never was. Sure he might be able to lend a little cred to the band, but at this point in time...Journey can only do so much. The Party's Over (hopelessly in love.)

If I were Arnel, I would leave Journey and ride out the rest of my short lived success in Asia and call it a day. It's better than trying to please fans that are impossible to please, but hang around like bitter ex-girlfriends talking shit.

I don't think Arnel reads the few message boards on here for gauging his success with Journey fans. I think he looks at the crowds that seem to enjoy him and bought the album.
And good points in the first paragraph.
