Why?

I heard that Journey played Message of Love at the Vegas concert where the DVD was filmed. Why was it cut from the DVD? I can't stand when bands release partial concerts.

Which Vegas DVD, 2001 or 2008?

2001

Apparently the band must have underestimated it's popularity. Good tune!

I was at the show and they left five songs off the DVD.

They left quite a bit out of the 2008 DVD as well.

A review of the Vegas concert at the time said "Only the Young" and "When You Love a Woman" were also performed.
My only guess concerning the omission of MOL (and WYLAW), is that the band wanted to quickly distance themselves from the stalled-success of TBF, and let "Higher Place" and "All the Way" represent Journey in the modern era.
But a band can never go wrong with more material...wish they left all the songs on there.

I know there was OTY, MOL, and WYLAW.
You remember the others by any chance?

Five? Wow, they played quite a set. I wish I was there. How was La Raza Del Sol? I figured the 2008 DVD was a chop job. Did they really start the set with Any Way You Want It? I'd love to see a pro-shot version of Message of Love. Here's to hoping they have it in the set next year!

the show in MSP target center 2001 AWYWI started the set list... and damn... I think that was the best the band ever sounded in the 2000's...

MOL is one of the best tunes Journey has ever recorded. When I first saw this topic I really hoped it was the 2001 show-arnie boy would destroy this one and ruin it forever for me.

What could Augeri do with it that Arnel couldn't? Why would one replacement be great and the other would ruin the song?

I wasn't there, but I seem to remember hearing somewhere along the line that right before Wheel In The Sky, they did some of Live & Breathe as an intro. It makes sense, as the cut before WITS seems pretty quick. And I think Neal would have had to change guitars in about two seconds.

Message of Love has zero popularity. If they're gonna play an unknown song it has to be new moving forward. Hits or new...with some fan faves. A fan fave is something like Edge of the Blade, not Message of Love. There is no room for a clunker like that in the setlist. 78-83 and new is they're best bet.

Message of Love went over worse than any new song I've ever heard them play, even Butterfly. Absolute silence and dull looks from people.

I don't even hate the song, but it seriously doesn't work live.

I'm one of those that likes the "deep tracks"- having said that, MOL is one of my all time Journey favs- I would love to hear it in concert.

I agree totally. The image of a "well past his prime" legendary golfer out there strutting around trying to sing and lead the band...even one who has been such an amazing talent and overall "embassador" to the game, is well...disturbing.

Dude, tread carefully. You do know the 2001 Vegas isn't really live right? They went in and overdubbed the vocals. I know you don't like Pineda, and that's fine, but if you are going to put Augeri against him, you are going to lose each and every time. Just sayin.'

When JSS led Journey in 2006 played it, they still used Perry's vocals on the intro.

My bad.
Looks like WYLAW did not get played.
Here is a review of the show.
As previously mentioned, OTY, MOL, and a little bit of Live and Breathe were played.

Weird.
Cain piping those goofy parts in from the laptop, they should've cut that.

No I mean just cut out the flying in of that intro part. Just dig right into the keyboard riff.

I think that's what they did this last tour, just jump started the song without the taped intro.

Maybe people are confusing the Vegas show with the one Augeri did in Japan in 98. The latter one included WYLAW and One More.

Why is that so shocking to you, Steveo, seriously?!?!
SG isn't the only one that feels that way!! I can't speak ...never heard the
Augeri version live!! :?

I personally LOVED Augeri's vocals on the 2 1/2 albums he did.
I even preferred it to Arnel's vocals on Revelation.
However, I think Arnel does a better job "live".
He has a better range and isn't having any of the health
issues Augeri's voice went thru... yet
