Why do you fans always write the same old thing every year? Just curious, why can't Journey play DSB and Faithfully nightly, and the rest of the set list you play whatever the Hell you want? Why does it have to be the same every single night? I just don't get.

By the way Gunbot, your idea- will NEVER see the light of day.

State Of Grace would be a most badass way to start the set. (think lights/lasers/video/during the electro-esque intro and a massive dose of pyrotechnics when the riff starts)

Didn't they use State of Grace during one of their tours already, can't remember which but maybe 2004 or 5?

My dream (I know I posted this before, but I still like it  ) is still a 3 night stand at someplace cool like the Chicago Theater (cap, 3600) with a different era each night.

Night One = Early Journey, pre-perry and infinity/evolution/departure
Night Two = Perry Era, escape/frontiers/ror
Night Three = Post-Perry including tbf

Than you could add a Night Four with the new concept album, but I bet it wouldn't sell.

No, Fuck you! I would actually consider going if they would play a different song once a decade. It is the same shit every show. I want to see Schon audible, instead of going into the next song on the set list, change it up and play something off the cuff, even a cover. Show me you aren't a programmed band..show me you have some real artistry there. Hell, any band can play the same set list every night, fuck these guys can play the Dozen in their sleep. Where's the fun in that?

And RedJoan, fuck you too. Bruce has done it and so have a lot of other artists(Bon Jovi comes to mind But they copy everything he does anyway so fuck them). Go look at set lists if you don't believe me. It makes for a different show and the fans can hear songs never before played.

I agree, just tear through the best of the whole catalog over 3 days. Forget the 4th

It seems there are more bands doing the whole album shows now. Steely Dan had the best idea, three gigs with a different album each night and the fourth show an internet request playlist.

Besides Bruce, Pink Floyd, has probably never played a dirty dozen set either. Another one who mixes up her setlist is Pat Benatar. She'll play hits, acoustic, jazz, blues, never the same the same show twice all the times I've seen her.

I argued this with RedJoe13 in PM. Maybe he is right. He says Journey audiences are very different and aren't that deep and wouldn't go for it.

Yes they do....A truly great band.

But you kinda lost me with having Styx as the opener.

People think the Journey set list is stale? Try some Styx on for size....."Paint by numbers".

Very true.

But, I think that if the album is done right, you could have some of both.

I'd like Journey to leave the Cain era alone a bit and bring back more of the Rolie era.

Example....Replace Open Arms and Escape with Patiently and Winds of March.

Not entirely. Since 1999 (the formation of the "new" Styx) there have been MANY setlist changes. The current one has been going on for too long though- since 2008. They put a Damn Yankees song in their set the other night though, so maybe they're finally starting to change things up.

Don't get me wrong...i LOVE styx, but since 2004, not much has change at all. The band lost some energy when Glen left...

You missed out. In 2005 they did the vocal intro in Los Angeles. It did sound cool. Great rock song.

Did they really do it though? That's a pretty tough harmony.

At any rate, it definitely sounded cool. Would have loved to have seen the whole tune.

Then if Schon reads this, and I believe he does, why in the Hell make such a record? For artists sake? Certainly not for commercial purposes. It won't sell, but to the die hards. I think Pink Floyd and Bruce can get away with this because like RedJoe said, they are entirely different audiences and clientele, and Journey's built in audience isn't half as big as those two bands. Journey's bed is made. They are a wonderful pop band but that's where the line ends with them. Music critics loathe them probably because of that, and the fact that they were successful being a pure pop band. They never did write a serious top 40 tune. So I just don't see why Schon would waste studio time doing this. Makes zero sense.

I was three sheets to the wind(eventually got popped climbing the fence to the tour buses- cut the fuck out of my inner elbow), true story....Lula maintains it was definitely live audio. Cain, Neal and Augeri did it, but only the intro...didn't play the entire song.
