Saturday Poll: Perry & Castronovo

We all know Perry is more than likely never returning to Journey. So hypothetically, if he did return and Steve Smith was not available or wasn't interested, what do you think would happen to Deen?

I think Perry would hire some other studio musician like he did on the ROR tour.

The fact that Castronovo can probably outsing Perry at this point in their careers would make for an immediate booting of Castronovo. Perry's ego ain't having none of that!

Agreed. Voted Option 4 for the very same reason. Couldn't have said it any better.

After hearing Castronovo sing, I actually can't stand Perry or Pineda. Castronovo has the best voice Journey has ever seen. "A Better Life" is some of the best vocal work in the Journey catalog. If Perry was smart, he'd keep Castronovo...someone's gotta sing the high notes

I have to disagree with you on best voice, but a really nice understated and soulful delivery by Deen that I love for this song. But I do agree that A Better Life is a beautiful, beautiful song, written by Schon/Cain. And great guitarwork by Neal. This sounds like a song that could be on a concept album.

I actually voted that he would stay until they could convince Smith to come back.

but with Deen on back up vocals...it could be interesting.

I would want to see the classic line up....so I would want Smith.

It won't happen anyway.....oh well!

Deen could actually carry Perry over some of the highs. You're right though, it's not gonna happen. If we ever get to hear Perry live again I will kiss your bare ass.

You just proved without a doubt you are a terrible fan and a complete retarded douche. Any real fan knows and it's not subject to discussion, that Perry had the best voice, bar none. Castronovo is fine, but he gets a little thin here and there and he himself will admit he hates singing lead. He actually had to do it once, when Augeri was run off the stage in the last days of his Journey career.

"A Better Life" is some of the best vocal work in the Journey catalog

You should never be allowed to post here ever again for saying something this ridiculous.

I like Deen's vox better than Arnel's. I hope if SP returned he would let Deen stay, but I doubt Deen would be singing any lead.

If Steve Perry comes back, can they, please, please, sing this song: Liberty - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=85fTb1UFA4c

The 2002 version was awesome. I wish they would do some type of mini acoustic set like they did that tour.

I'm laughing that 7 of you really think that Deen would be kept. Perry would clean house and I'd bet he'd probably fire Ross again too.

Here it is in 2002. Sound isn't great but only clip: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g2PHuPjxEjw

And have them do this song, too, Troubled Child, with the reunion.

If Journey does songs like this for their concept album, I will be very interested. Could turn out to be a great cd.

Who knows? I think he may have already done that and I don't know if he looks back on that now too proudly. I mean, I would let Valory go yesterday because he sucks, but other than that, naw, I say SP would keep Deen around. Remember, Perry himself was a drummer, and one thing he liked about Smith was Smitty knew how to drum for a singer...meaning he knew when to let up and so forth. I bet Castronovo does the same thing, or is at least mindful of it since he himself sings now too.

If we're going by current vocal ability, Deen would be singing and Perry would be playing the drums. Where's that option?

Listen to Steve Perry's studio verson of "Mother Father" then listen to Deen live. Deen sounds better live than Steve does in the studio. I cannot stand the way Steve sings the line "an empty stare" Deen kicks his ass.

I can guarantee you that if I copied this and showed it to Deen personally, he would laugh his ass off at the absurdity.

You are a fucking buffoon.

Listen to Steve sing it live and then Deen. Steve is much better vocally. But I enjoy Deen just as much b/c he rocks singing MF and playing drums at the same time. It's a different kind of energy and a powerful performance b/c of that and I love it. But his vocals are more muted than Perry's vocals on the song and lacks some of the vibrancy of steve's vocals.

I teared up when he started singing that in concert last year. He performed it beautiful. One of the highlights of the concert for me.
