I found this YT clip I hadn't seen before, thanks to Clarissa at AP's site. He sounds great!

Good. From what I have read, Neal and Jon have completed all the writing and are ready for the vocals to be laid down. 12 songs but perhaps some are extended jams as they are not going for radio play this time so no need for the 3-4 minute limits on song length.

Most artist collect the majority of their writing royalties from the radio/TV/Movie use of their music. With album sales being nothing like they were 20 or even ten years ago, you either write radio hits or you make your money touring. Neal has said this album isn't aimed at the radio so they are probably just looking at the touring to create profit. With the re-release of the back catalog in Europe and Australia, writing credits for this album can't be that big a deal to Jon or Neal. The revenue generated from the rehash of DSB and those older albums is where their royalty money is coming from of late. I'm sure Arnel, Deen and Ross will make plenty of money from the tour next year to compensate them for their work with the group. Seriously, I hear six to eight different Journey songs a day on the radio, none of being newer than 1983. Unless this new album album sells 5 million copies and has songs that are going to get played on the radio for the next 25 years, the writing royalties over new material shouldn't even be an issue for this current line up.

Good points GB. But even Revelation still gets airplay on Sirius etc, so there must be some additional income there. Also, a great song even if it doesn't get airplay is always open to someone doing a cover of it. Cha-ching.

Sirius/XM has somewhere between 10 to 15% (I think I'm being generous here) of the radio market but is actually losing ground due to the influx of HD radio as hardware prices drop for HD tuners. There is money in the satellite market, of course but compared to FM, it's chump change, really. There was a great chance for the market to explode after the merger but then the economy crashed and people started using their subscription funds for other things.

Neal has mentioned the Ipod angle and that really is being blamed for a lot the erosion in radio and satellite markets over the years as people just plug their Ipod into the aux port in their car stereo and simply forget about the radio.

Streaming media is good market to look at. Of course, like satellite radio , it has been financially strapped because it has to pay both performers and songwriter royalties, something terrestrial radio doesn't have to do.

That's a typo, it should be Ammo Band. Zoo is fronted by Reuben.

Yeah, I think it's a charity event. I heard that he had established a PI based APF (confirmation needed). He's really serious in trying to help educate some the poorest kids.

It's the latter...

The post-Arnel Zoo roped off in no time. The replacement vocalist joined other musicians, technically retaining the Zoo identity. The rest brought on board a new frontman, settling with the new Ammo label.

GOD- what a horrible song that is. I can't believe that was a Styx song. Terrible tune. Sounds like something out of Debbie Boone's catalog. I'm a huge Styx fan and I remember when that came out on Cornerstone, I was just going "WHAT is this???". Then "Eddie" played off the same album. Yikes. That was when I began to question my Styx fandom.

Not that difficult a song to sing actually. Lots of falsetto parts. Arnel does a good job of it though as does that band that's playing with him.

Yeah, we all know that Arnel is one of the most epic vocalists out there.. he sounds just like steve perry! ^_^
