Thread title:
Why do white people love "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Don't Stop Believin"

There is a guy toward the end who stands up for Journey a bit.

I'm not a fan of the former. Southern Rock is overstated and bland for the most part.

southern rock kicks ass. Journey (except for arnie boy) kicks ass.

It's usually as predictable and boring as the standard blues 16 bar.
I love ZZ Top, .38 Special, and Tom Petty, though...where do they fall

Tom Petty-a fellow Gator from Gainesville Florida! Love that guy!

Great, one of my buddies over there:
Perknose;Hey Steve! Long time no see.
Not to pile on and harsh your Journey love, but just a couple nights ago on Treme (HBO), the white DJ character had assembled a true Nawlins all star group of musicians to record a song he wrote.
The sound engineer asks him if he wants a pre-recorded drum/guitar intro spliced in to the live recording, and the DJ roars in disgust, "HELL NO, what do you think we are, Journey?"

Tom Petty-a fellow Gator from Gainesville Florida! Love that guy!
A guy that loves a terrible vocalist like Tom Petty constantly complaining about a great singer like Arnel.
It all makes sense now....
Your opinions on singers sir, are quite frankly....
CACA DOODY!
Now, please place your ankles onto the log...

unfortunately for this statement Tom Petty is a legend. Arnie Boy is an imitator, and not a good one. Arnie Boy will NEVER achieve the success that TP has. I didnt say TP was a great singer, although if Bob Dylan can make a living singing from his nose then Tom Petty can. My statement was that I love the guy because a fellow Gator made good in a really big way.

Tom Petty's cool, especially as a Wilbury. But he's a terrible singer. The comment was more of a "Oh, if you think Petty's good than you don't really know good". But I like Petty, I was just messin' with ya.
"Arnie Boy" won't be a legend? In his own country, Arnel will be more a legend than Journey ever will be in theirs. Weird but probably true.

We all know a good song does not need a good voice; and a good voice (lately) does not need a good song...

I like that song! Oh, and loved Ruben Studdard's version of SHA. And, I loved DSB back in the day! Actually, most of my beer-drinking non-black friends especially those in college hated Journey and loved AC DC; Led Zepplin; Black Sabbath and so on. I could not find anyone who reveled in Journey with Steve Perry the way I did back then.
