Does SONY want Journey back?

I don't see why Sony would want them back. The back catalog is moving along well enough without them. Sony knows the big selling point for the band was the promotion of being a Wal-Mart exclusive with a three disc set at a low price. Wal-Mart used them as a loss leader to get people into the store to buy other things, Sony cant do that.
Journey's next album would have to go double platinum for Sony to make a good sized profit of of it. What are they going to do, re-record B-Sides this time to make it a twin disc package?
If it's one disc for $9.99, I think gold would be a realistic expectation but not much more.

If anything, I could see Azoff lobbying for Journey to go back to Wal-Mart with the Arnel Documentary as a pack-in disc.

As the Doc will contain a lot of Journey classics, even if it's just in the back round, this would probably be Perry's preference too.
As the movie is an independent venture, I wonder what kind of licensing agreement the Film makers are going to work out with Perry to use music he helped pen and the actual song song name as a title for the movie.
Just because Arnel is a member of Journey doesn't mean the movie producers can just use the older Journey music without following the rules established by copyright law.

Journey could keep going like Aerosmith. Remember when they signed that HUGE record deal for something like 9 albums? The world thought the record label was crazy. I think they've done half. We'll see if they ever finish, but the fact is they're still going. Journey has a lot of life in them and they could keep churning out material if they want.

I doubt SONY would want them back for any more than they already had with Arrival...a record at a time. Journey could've stayed with SONY after Arrival, SONY offered to renew for the next album. Journey was smart and walked away. They are best served doing it on their own and securing distribution. That is the only thing the majors have up their sleeve, and WalMart and iTunes (Target and Best Buy as well) are chipping away at that.

They could do that, but I don't think it would double the sales, like on Revelation...The documentary would be a DVD, not audio only. The reason Revelation's sales were doubled is because of the rerecords.
