New album info

To Whom It May Concern is a song written by Arnel and his brother. It's to be one of the 12 tracks on the new album. The subject matter for the song is "Peace in turbulent times".

Another Arnel composition included in the track listing is She's A Mystery.

For our friends south of the border, South America is to be part of the next tour too along with Europe and Asia.

And just for those concerned, there was confirmation that Pineda is still restricted from performing Journey tunes on his solo gigs.

Peace in Turbulent Times. So what's the theme of this CD?

It's supposed to be spiritual so maybe it will be Journey's own take on faith, a watered down Christian Rock type theme?

Something that fits in with Wal-Mart's stance on what kind of music it wants to put on its store shelves.

If that means they'll miss the iTunes boat again, we'll have to see.

Sounds pretty interesting...

I do have one question and I feel REALLY STOOPID for
asking but I have to. I've only recently started reading in here
a lot again and, "Don", for someone with so much knowledge
and such a high post count, I should "know" you by now but
I am drawing a serious blank! Did you ever go by another name???

Seriously, don't laugh or tease me but I can't figure who you are or remember
reading so many insightful posts from you in the past...

I went by Gunbot but after meeting people here in real, and having some of them occasionally address me by my real name in their posts, I just decided enough with the alias. Since I use my real name on Facebook anyway, it only made sense.

Who spilled? And those do sound kind of like ballads, maybe that's the only 2 on the album. :D

That's okay he can do the rest of the 80's catalog from other bands. Nothing like showing you are the lead
singer of Journey.

Neal is going to be working on segways in November so this could in fact be like a conceptual album where each song bleeds into the next, sort of like Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile on Departure or the Dream After Dream soundtrack.

He's only allowed to butcher Journey songs when he is with the rest of the band......never solo. :P

I'll take a stab at this one. Perhaps he's contractually bound or he just does what is suggested to keep the peace, but Journey is a collective unit and as long as you're in the band you should probably only sing those songs as a unit. Obviously, there are exceptions and he's been allowed to/chosen to sing as many as 3 songs at his charity gigs and other events. I think this promotes peace, keeps harmony and ensures that the entire band reap the profits of Journey songs being performed. I think it's more of a case of what should be done and not "why can't" it be done.

It's on the lines of royalties and conflict of interests. If AP is singing Journey tunes at a live performance solo without the rest of the Journey band, Journey may want a percentage of the proceeds. If people know AP will be singing Journey tunes, that would be like using the Journey name to attract fans to the gigs that are not official Journey gigs. Infringement on copyrights and/or contracts. I remember a similar situation a number of years ago with another band, I think it was Starship. They had used the world "Jefferson" as in Jefferson Starship to promote their gig, way after Jefferson was no longer the band name and that caused an issue. It resulted in a lawsuit where Starship ended up having to pay I think former members and/or founding members who where by contract in the band when it was named "Jefferson Starship". It may have been with another band and not Starship, but I'm pretty sure it was. Maybe someone else can chime in with the facts.
