I've been listening to Escape quite a bit lately and have decided that it is the Best Rock Album ever.
How can you beat this?

1. "Don't Stop Believin'"
2. "Stone in Love"
3. "Who's Crying Now"
4. "Keep on Runnin'"
5. "Still They Ride"
6. "Escape"
7. "Lay It Down"
8. "Dead or Alive"
9. "Mother, Father"
10. "Open Arms"

What do think Peeps?

E5C4P3 has been dropping down my list of late. "Open Arms" spent years being a least favorite song of mine. "Don't Stop Believin'" has taken over that spot with the media over-saturation. "Who's Crying Now" no longer holds up for me. BUT the rest of the album is still stellar. But among Journey CDs it's no longer my favorite so I doubt I can call it the best rock album ever...

So what is your favorite?? Not sure it has to be Journey due to the thread title?

I am saying that as far as the track listing, I can't think of another album that has this many solid songs.

If you have another one lets hear it.

I don't listen to Escape compaed to other Journey CDs. Frontiers had a chance at being amazing if they had the two great tracks they dropped off in place of the two crappy ones. If that had happened, I would say it was perfect.

Best rock album? Hmmmm, I will have to think on that. Joshua Tree ranks right up there.

I would rate either Infinity, Evolution, or Departure ahead of Escape. Open Arms is still my all time least favorite Journey song.

I'm with you on this one. There's never been another album I've listened to as much as Escape.

see, for me, I'm tired of DSB. I'm not a big fan of Keep on Runnin', Lay it Down or Dead or Alive. Tired of Open Arms. Stone in Love has never been a favorite of mine, except I like it fine in concert.

I don't know, best ever rock album is kinda hard to narrow down to just one wouldn't you say?

Personally I think Van Halen Van Halen released in 78' gave Escape a run for it's money, even though the two albums were released at different years.

Agreed.

I can think of a bunch that beat it.

How about Reckless?

1. One Night Love Affair
2. She's Only Happy When She's Dancin'
3. Run To You
4. Heaven
5. Somebody
6. Summer Of '69
7. Kids Wanna Rock
8. It's Only Love
9. Long Gone
10. Ain't Gonna Cry

I would say U2's Joshua Tree, and Born in the USA are both superior.

Born in he USA is crap compared to any JRNY cd

If Frontiers would have been released with all the songs It would have blown Escape away.

Separate Ways (Worlds Apart)
Send Her My Love
Chain Reaction
After the Fall
Faithfully
Only The Young
Ask The Lonely
Edge of the Blade
Troubled Child
Back Talk
Frontiers
Rubicon

Fuck, you're right froy, I guess 7 top ten hits and 24 million sold equals crap. BITUSA is better than any Journey effort, bar none.

Scoreboard never lies Asshole.

Really the scoreboard is always right?
How many of those Bruce songs do you hear now?
1 maybe,
Bruce is a guy with a busted up mouth who can't sing worth a damn.
Go check the score board and see what Madonna looks like
Is she better than JRNY also.

I see you still as vulgar as ever,
Later drunkard.

numbers sold is only PART of the equation. Otherwise, NSYNC and the like are making much better cds these days than either Journey or Bruce. You can have the best album ever, and if you don't get the right promotion, it won't sell for anything.

BITUSA would be lucky to sell 3 million copies if released today. Nothing on the album--just the marketplace.

I believe 3 million sold today would net you the biggest seller in the nation, yes? I'd take it and so would Bruce I'm sure. Look, I wasn't trying to make this a Bruce vs Journey thing, nor was I saying Escape sucked, because it definitely kicks ass, All I am trying to say respectfully is that BITUSA was a monster, and for good reason. Actually, I hear quite a few of those tunes on various stations. How many songs do you hear from Escape not named DSB? maybe WCN? Maybe. Open Arms? Yuck.

I also noticed no one took on Reckless. That album is definitely overall stronger than Escape, and the ballads are better as well.

Reckless is a very solid album, Just not a huge fan of BA or Bruce, the only song I really like off of that album is Glory Days. As far as U2, I would say WAR is their best.

BITUSa was a monster because of 1 thing MTV, That goofy video set that cd off and it became a huge hit for the guy, I liked Tunnel of Love and Glory Days and that was it, When you put the vocals of Bruce against Perry it's NO CONTEST, When you put the drumming of Smith against the dude with Bruce another no brainer
And Neil blows the entire band away. That's my point .

for what it's worth, Stone in Love gets a fair amount of airplay around here. Of course, you are talking to someone who thinks Frontiers was much better overall (especially if you release it with the original pre-messed with tracklisting).

Since you want to continue this and derail 78's thread, I'm game.

You want pit bandmembers against each other? Fine by me.

Bruce against Perry? So what, Perry can sing better. He certainly can't write, play or perform better. That's a no brainer. Bruce is arguably the single greatest frontman ever.

Smith versus Max? Smith wins.

Neal vs. Van Zandt? Neal. Neal vs Nils Lofgren? Think again. Lofgren is one of the best guitarists in the world. E Street has three guitarists to Journey's one.

I won't go on, because it's fucking stupid, but why is the E Sreet Band considered among the best in the world and you never hear Journey mentioned as such?

Froy, you have a personal opinion. You happen to hate Bruce which is fine...but I nominated BITUSA over Escape and obviously have made some think about it. You will never accept it because of your hatred towards him. You're twisting shit to make your argument, and it's weak. Just think if I would have nominated Born to Run instead? That's ten times better than BITUSA. Top 5 album ever.

Go spin some more DDY and STFU on this.

Best front man ever No thanks and Perry is one of the top 5 vocalists ever.
that's 1 reason why JRNY beats the hell out of BESB

Smith versus Max? Smith wins.

That's 2

Neal vs. Van Zandt? Neal. Neal vs Nils Lofgren? Think again. Lofgren is one of the best guitarists in the world. E Street has three guitarists to Journey's one.

I will bet ya more people on this earth would recognize a Neal Schon jam compared to any Lofgren jam,
Play a piece they would say that's Neal from Journey the same can't be said about Lofgren.

I won't go on, because it's fucking stupid,

Hey you started it ,

Best in the world for what?
Neil Diamonds band is better and Neil Diamond is a better front man and singer compared to Sprinsteen

Just think if I would have nominated Born to Run instead? That's ten times better than BITUSA. Top 5 album ever.

Wrong by miles dude

The Wall

probably because Springsteen is a much better lyricist than anyone in Journey. Springsteen talks about big issues, while Journey generally avoids them and does the tried and true love song. Serious lyrics appeals to the music critics much more than a well-written pop song. Same with Dylan. You don't honestly think he's respected because of his superior vocal ability, do you?!?

Music critics generally don't like what Journey does, and it has nothing to do with the caliber of musicianship in both bands.

ding ding ding... great answer... I will tweak it though and call them the critics***MUSIC SNOBS***..... one of the reasons it will be another 5-10 years before journey gets into the hall of fame...
