I've never paid much attention to Red 13, save Walking Away From the Edge, which I absolutely love. I've been listening to Red 13 tonight. Wow. I love it. So different.

Why isn't there much love for the EP? I've seen discussion on here about it, but I can't remember what was said. I think their creative juices were flowing.

I loved it from the first time I heard it - especially love The Time and State of Grace...

Walking Away and State of Grace are really good... other two are decent. My biggest gripe is of course the production quality. Probably the reason I don't go back to it too often. Usually, I'll wind up listening to WAFTE when it shuffles onto my iPod

At first few listens I thought State Of Grace was the best on the EP but then realized it is The Time by far. One of the best things they've made.
Even I Can Breathe has toe-tapping moments.

Never got the hyperventalating over WAFTE, though.

Same here. State of Grace doesn't hold up. The more I revisit it, the more it sounds sloppily thrown together: middle eastern chords, the words "state of grace" being looped backwards at the end, Deen's bongo solo. The whole song amounts to a giant WTF. Love the rest of it tho.

Main reason I stay away from it. But it does have some good songs on. And it seemed the band was willing to stretch a little away from the typical Journey song structure.

Add me to the list as well - The Time is absolutely one of the best...

I really love State of Grace, and WAFTE is such a truly beautiful song to me. But I agree about The Time. It is really flat-out amazing. It is now moved into one of my favorite songs by Journey. But State of Grace is amazing, too. And there is a real sexiness to The Time. And that's what Neal is saying about their new album, that the music is sexy. I wonder if they were referring to something like this. I hope so. If they are as creative on this new album as they were on this EP, it will be a great, rocking album with the moodiness that I wanted.

These songs all have the feel to me of We Will Meet Again and I'll Cover You... Maybe it's the drums but definitely it's the sound of a sitar which I guess Neal got out of his guitar... We Will Meet Again sounds exotic all the way through along with the lyrics. A lot of these Augeri-era tunes I love, love, love... They were discussing Walk Away From The Edge in another thread somewhere--it was co-written by someone who has collaborated with Eric Martin (I think that's what was discussed) in the past... Anyhoo, if this is the style that JC meant in that article then I can't wait to hear the album. Maybe they're thinking of a concept album along the lines of St. Pepper since George was very involved with the sitar and Eastern religion and so forth--who the heck knows? Maybe Neal will blog something :) :) .

We Will Meet Again, I never ever tire of that song. One of the best songs ever done by Journey. The intro with drums, then overlaying of piano, and then Neal's guitar comes in overlaying that, wow, chills and then the amazing song, such melody, (sigh, the lyrics) delivered so soulfully by Augeri. I put that song in my top ten of Journey.

Just finished blasting Red13...hope the neighbors enjoyed it as much as I did...

I would love for the next album to be in this vein...

The Time, We Will Meet Again, et al, mature, and yes, sexy music...

I love Red13...just not too wild about Neal's overly processed, digital, thin sounding guitar tone that he has now which started with this album. The songs are great, though.
