Jovit fans vs Arnel fans

I was watching this kid sing Faithfully on Youtube and his duets of the song with Arnel.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pwRdolwZgfo

Going through the comments, I could see that not everything was rosey so I had my wife translate some of them for me.
Remember the Perry vs Pineda wars on Youtube? Well. they are back with a different character this time. Now Pineda is the old guy who can't hold the notes according to some while on the other side we have the pinheads dogging on the child in Arnel's defense. Depending on what video you watch, the comments go for and against either guy with many comments being deleted in between.
Why is Arnel even appearing on these shows? If you are supposed to be preserving the sacredness of these songs (According to what Neal told Arnel), why are you getting involved in these atrocious duets again?
Well, all that hoopla about Arnel singing circles around Perry because he's an old man has come full circle. So, should Arnel shut it down with this kid or continue supporting him with these appearances and duets?

Remember in that other thread what I was saying about Elvis music being played into the ground and next it being MJ's music. Well the classic Journey songs are starting to come in third. I am so burned out hearing any of these old songs anymore....really. If I kept track, I bet in a few years from now we'll have seen maybe twenty more singers be showcased singing these same old songs. It's like beating a dead horse!

It's gotten so bad I completely refuse to sing a classic Journey tune out at the club on karaoke night, and if anyone does get up to sing one, I go out to the smoking section and take in a little second hand smoke.....that's much more relaxing to be serious.

But then again, it may just be me....I'm not the type who will watch a movie more then one time.

The ASAP appearance was but a casual engagement (practically unrehearsed, true to the live show's raw party jamming vibe) to satisfy the PI audience's lingering clamor for a duet (Jovit has long professed to be an Arnel fan and the kid's "celebrated" Got Talent audition piece was Faithfully).

The performance isn't the issue here. It's the irony of some of these arguments being used by Pineda fans against Perry now being used by the Jovit fans against Arnel.
As far as my point about his participation in these duets, I don't see why what fans are clamoring for has to do with Arnel singing these songs when he himself has said he was told to lay low this year and is prohibited from singing Journey material. The priority when highlighting any Journey material should always be how it benefits the band. I don't see where this did at all. Of course , Arnel is his own man and will do his own thing when putting his fans first instead of his employer. We all saw how well that worked out with his preparation for the SuperBowl pre-game show.
The shame of it all is that Jovit didn't pick a song that Arnel has made his own, like After All These Years which even Janno Gibbs had honored with a rendition. Instead we have a cover of a cover. Karaoke Nation strikes again.

I'd like to see a show come out that only lets people sing their own original songs. Then we'd be able to see who's really good and who isn't. There is so much lack in originality with these "karaoke" singers that it stinks big time! I can't even stand watching the shit anymore. It's like there are probably lots of people who can duplicate a famous painting by Picasso, but doing so shouldn't warrant them to be famous because of it.

In my opinion, play other people's music for practice and fun only. But to make a real name for yourself it is manditory that you play original music with an original style. If not, your just another Wayne Newton.....and I can't stand that fucking guy's act.

I'm not tearing into Arnel here just to be an asshole, which I ADMIT I AM AT TIMES. I just think he's too nice for his own good. Sometimes you have to set bounds in what you do. I think he could just say in the future " Good luck Jovit, I support you " and leave it at that without these public appearances which seem to be more for the other person or TV network then for himself or Journey.
In the case of Faithfully, a shout out to Jon Cain would be nice also.
Notice how Jon, Neal and Steve always say "We" or even mention the other guys names when they talk about certain songs. I'd like to see Arnel brush up on his Journey history and give a little acknowledgement when he is speaking of the band or any of their songs in public. After all he is the face of Journey in the Philippines so he should represent them accordingly. Heaven knows, Neal and Jon do it for him often enough.

I also think Neal should let Arnel sing After All These Years, Where Did I Lose Your Love, and any other original song of of Revelation. While all the big hits are tied into Journey's golden era and associated with a different lineup, these songs from Disc 1 of Revelation can really be called Arnel's as it his voice we hear on the radio when they are played. I don't think it would do any harm to let him sing them now and then on his solo tour.

Hey, anything to drive discussion here. This isn't a fawning fansite site (or in the case here at MR, only a specific forum) like others where we all walk in lockstep, never to utter anything more than total adulation for certain singers or groups. The Youtube commentary involves elements of Journey (one of their classic songs and their current singer) so why not open it up for discussion here? We can laugh at the comments, agree with them, disagree or give a summary of the entire picture and make suggestions concerning what we perceive are the issues herein.

I agree, Arnel should be able to the Revelation material. You really could get rid of the karaoke tag that way too.

But the particular exchanges reek of deliberate (hopefully) idiocy. I can only laugh at the saturation of nuisance posts.
