NO JOKE -- someone just IM'ed me on Facebook that they'd heard Perry was spotted having dinner with members of Journey in S.F. recently. We're both looking for more info. It may not pan out but has ANYONE else heard anything like this?

If it happened, they were probably talking about licensing requests or what not. That's one part of Journey (and a lucrative one at that) that with a few excepttions, seems to require the continiuous participation of band member #6.

I'm sure you're right, and "reunion" talk would be the last thing I'd suspect if this actually did happen. I'd just be surprised any face-to-face would happen instead of negotiations thru attorneys.

File this one with Steve Perry and cancer rumor....LOL. I don't see that happening....They have their "people" to do the talking for them.

As much as people act out to the media, sometimes there is still a chance for some kind of partial reconciliation. Roger Waters and David Gilmour are said to have a real tense relationship but they have gotten together on occasion (last week actually) to do some things for charity.
I would LOVE to see Steve do some things with Rolie. I don't think Gregg is one to hold a grudge forever and the bluesy type music he does at his shows would really compliment Perry without him having to do any vocal histrionics.
Unfortunately, since Gregg lives in Texas, I don't think he was involved here.

I totally agree with you...... that would be a fabulous show to see....
I always loved how their 2 voices blended together...

Hey Rip, d'you ask Arnel if he knows anything about this so called meeting?
How well do you know this person that sent you the IM?

I'll say this is the probably the last original album coming from the band, reunion or not. I think the financial windfall with Wal-Mart was the only reason Revelation even got released. I figure this upcoming album is more to appease some of the newer fans and then that's it, the band simply becomes a touring act until they retire.

It was probably Arnel with his shades on. Wouldn't have happened to a loon.

I can see the press release now:
"We'd like to thank Arnel for being the classy guy he has for the last 3 years filling some pretty big shoes. But...."

I had a friend once who got complety high on drugs out in the Philippines and then the next day was telling me he saw Elvis, Jim Morrison, (and some other fucking guy I can't remember right now) out drinking in some hut that he came across. He said they asked him to join them so he says he went in and shared a drink with them and they all bullshitted together for a while.
I think this Perry/Journey sighting is based on the same criteria.

But this happened in San Francisco. The drugs may have been from the Philippines, though.

Pure speculation at this point based on your conservative opinion Don.....
How do you know what kind of deal they have lined up for distributing/marketing this new CD? Assuming it
does end up going Platinum and I'll bet it will, what will the band do then? I don't believe for one second that they're writing new material just to "appease" the new fans...they're doing it because they want to! There's still alot of creative energy left in this band and I'm personally looking forward to this 'edgier' sound on the new record.
I wouldn't exactly consider the WalMart deal they had for Revelation a financial "windfall", either.

Why would they be having dinner is SF though? None of them live there anymore?

makes me think of the Axl rose analogy i heard...
axl is axl, and axl is axl....
you could take out axl and put in perry.
he does what he wants...when he wants and where he wants.
so...
perry is perry, and perry is perry.

No shit, Sherlock.
Unless you've got a crystal ball, what makes what I said any less valid than your own opinion on the subject?
Journey was going to get paid from Wal-Mart a tremendous amount of money regardless how well the album sold. Not a common occurrence in the music industry, almost like a bonus for actually hanging around for 30+ years, just like Foreigner and REO. To me a deal like that equates to a financial windfall.

The fact that he thinks he has the "right" opinion.

LOL, no, but I might.

The IM'er is a musician who lives close to the area, but he'd also just heard it second hand so we were looking to see if anyone else had intel. It sounded like the source came from a post somewhere.

Hell yes WalMart was a windfall; for this band anyway. I guarantee you they made more money on Revelation than they did with Generations, Arrival and Red13 combined.
As for the new cd going platinum, I guess. Just release it in the Phillipines and you'll get your platinum. It won't sell a million to non Filipinos, no way.

It may go Platinum in The Philippines (15k is the certification threshold there for international artists, as of June 2010) and then it may not. Filipinos aren't exactly enjoying an economic boon right now and Mr. Pineda's story isn't quite as fresh as it was three years ago.
I believe Revelation went Double platinum there if I remember right.

Wiki:
Steve Perry and past and present members of Journey have been courted by Disney and the producers of Tron Legacy to contribute an original theme song for the film. Journey wrote the original song "Only Solutions" for the first Tron movie, although that song wound up in the ending credits.
If Disney forked up enough dough, money might buy some love.
Possibility?

I could see this happening again:

It would be silly to think that Neal and Jon didn't enjoy recording with Perry. When the drama is put aside, there had to be a lot of great times making that killer music. I'm sure they all miss that. It may be good with Arnel, but let's face it - it's Perry who had the magic that sold albums.
