It has been known for decades, that this was Perry's departure song. Many songs are written in code about other bandmates.

Perry wrote a song on his FTLOSM about Schon and Cain, called Anyway.

Highest Ground off Soul Sirkus was written for Augeri, and it wasn't too kind either.

My first Journey concerts in 81 & 82 were Prime Perry. When I saw him again in 83, Everything had changed for him vocally but not to the extent that would happen with ROR.

Sadly no Canadian dates on ROR tour. Would loooove to have seen an ROR show......one of my favorite vocal tone eras of his. Girl Can't Help It and Only The Young are probably my all-time favorites for vocal tone. I did see Perry-fronted Journey back in May '82 on the Escape tour, helluva concert! Another kicker too, never did get to see Jeff front Journey (live) either.

He knew how to play to a click track, just like Deen does.

true, but when you have someone the caliber of Steve Smith in the band, you shouldn't NEED for them to play to a click track...

When the lead singer insists on pumping in synced up pre-recorded backing vocals you really don't have a choice but to play to a click track.

Quadruple layered backup vocals times two. God, I hated that fucking album. It really killed Journey, especialy in Asia.

That was easily their worst tour with The Nose. Total destruction what Nostrildamus did to the pre-ROR songs the majority of nights on that tour. The ROR stuff sounded really good, but he was unable to sing the previous songs in their original key with any semblance of what they originally sounded like so, on certain nights, he just blazed right through them at warp speed. But they were trapped. They couldn't tune down because the ROR songs would have sounded like shit and he was able to sing them quite well.

Probably more of a chick album. I love it, the raw richness of Perry's vocal tone damn near makes my toes curl......I don't care how many layers it is. Along with GCHI, easily one of my faves.........It Could Have Been You http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AIvLX615xUU
