Can you look back and pinpoint the song that definitively made you a Journey fan for life? For me, I remember the steady stream of live music videos in seemingly constant rotation on MTV in late '81. "Don't Stop Believin'" and "Open Arms" were staples, but when "Stone In Love" and "Who's Cryin' Now" came on, I think that's when it went to a whole different level. They were pop songs, but once SP allowed the band - namely Neal - to close those songs as elongated jams, I was hooked. To this day, I never get tired of listening to those leads. I think only Slash ("November Rain") has done anything like it since.

Oh..Perry....Mother Father....ESCAPE.....TOO MANY TO decide...Stone in Love was a song that makes me think of summer and
my days of a keg party...till this day I crank it up that tune...windows down and thinking of who and where I was I was when that song was playing...that made it special!!

Journey was the music of my youth....there are so many songs...and who and where went with it....

Infinity in 78......the songs on that record went right to my heart. Fell in love with the voice of Journey then. Even my 10 year old son loved those songs. We used to listen to them all the time. Such memories of the past

Sweet and simple, Something to hide, DSB, ..... and it goes on and on.The combination of Schon, Perry, Cain, Valory and Smith they were magic together. Just last night while hanging out at the Casino AYWI was playing( they play only the Perry era Journey music at the SilverStar) Let me tell you something that's really odd about that LOL no shit they played three Journey songs in a row one night and all the while the songs were playing I was winning when the play list changed I stopped winning so I took the money that I had won and ran.

The interaction between Neal's guitar and Steve's voice at the end of the song is like a spiritual experience.

As far as a Journey song being "life changing", I would have to say anything with Arnel singing it. Just listening to his voice makes me a better person.

Well, I wasn't around in their heyday, but I was just starting to get back into playing guitar and into 80s rock 9 years ago when I was about 15. At the time, I knew Anyway You Want it and Don't Stop Believin'.

My buddy sent me Separate Ways over the old ICQ and I was hooked - the chugging guitar riff, 80s synth, huge harmony, and great soloing had me hooked. Started listening to every Journey song I could get my hands on.

feeling that way/anytime... the intro to Feeling that way and open my eyes to a new kind of way... this song mus be PLAYED LOUD its the master piece song by Journey in my opinion... ...it made my hair stand up it was soo good...and still gets my hair to stand up when its on the radio... DSB is the siganature song...but Feeling that way is the one journey tune that swept me away...

Slow dancing to Lovin' Touchin' Squeezin'........eventually married the guy. Next life changing Journey song.......I'll Be Alright Without You.

I don't think I can say that any Journey song changed my life (their lyrics where complete cheese, pop cliches masqueraded around rock riffs) but I do know when my appreciation of them began in earnest. August, 1981. I already had the Captured LP and Infinity on 8track so I was familiar with their music. How ever that month, MTV came on the air and when I got to see a live video of performing Lights/Stay Awhile, a performance I knew audibly from Captured, I was hooked. The musicianship, the stage presence, the ability to captivate an audience that for the most part didn't understand the words you were singing, that was the moment that I thought WOW, these guys are good. I made up my mind right then that I had to go to a show and as luck would have it, the band would be opening for the Stones in the fall so I made it my mission to get to JFK stadium. I had a classmate who's older brother had a car and he was interested in going to see Foreigner anyway so everything came together, I got to go to the show and became a big fan from that point on.

1980 Iowa Jam for me... with Journey, TOTO the Babys and Molly Hatchet... a week after graduation from HS...
for whatver reason...the song that sticks to me was Schon doing people and places still sticks out from that show...

Probably the one Journey song that still gets me to this day is......Only The Young. Everytime I hear even the start of it on the radio, just gives me the chills. Absolutely no vocal tone like it......and just a great song! LOL, I seem to daudle when I hear that one.........my neighbor was working in his garage directly across the alley from mine and that song was on, and I took my sweetass time unloading groceries from the trunk, just so I could listen longer.

I was blown away and went to Tower Records the next day to buy Infinity. I bought Journey, Look Into The Future & Next about a week later not realizing that the singer-guy I saw on TV wasn't on those albums. Still loved them, though.

First Journey concert in 1980. Met my BFF Cyndy because of Journey. Got a chance to work for them in 1983. Quit my job in Sacramento and moved to SF. Fan Asylum was born in 1984 and we've had some pretty interesting adventures in the last 26 years.

So, yeah. I guess Journey did change my life.

If you and Cyndy ever wrote a book, it would be riveting.......and not even just Journey, but all the different music people you gals have worked with over the years.

From the 1983 "Frontiers" Tour in Hartford.........buying tickets at the last-minute.....sitting practically on the ceiling.....having a SPOTLIGHT hit our row & me waving and Steve waving....sigh......

Neal's intro on Lights and Perry's vocals on Patiently made me a fan forever....nothing better than that musically. Almost makes me feel a little Looney.

First Journey song I heard was in the car as I was just about to get out. The song was Do You Recall (although I thought the title was Stormy Weather). I sat and listened to the whole thing.

My favorites are still Feeling That Way/Anytime and Captured is still my favorite album.

Infinity and the song "Lights". I heard it on the radio and was taken away by that voice. My family had moved the year before in 1977 and I was so bummed about the move....hated being miles and miles away from family and my friends. That song when I heard it a year later made everything seem not so bad. That song holds a special place in my heart always.

Just stay with me a while, Lights He sings it so sweetly. I love all the songs though. I went to the concert in 83' in Memphis and I just kept going I know this song! I love this song! and screaming like a fool.............I was hooked on the songs before, but I was a die hard fan that night.

"Lights" I STILL remember what car I was driving then--so much fun...

Compared to other hardcores here, I’m a relative newcomer to the fan-wagon, having reached middle-age when “discovering” SP and Journey. Even though I’m from San Francisco, completely missed their heyday. Work…family…and following professional sports took precedent over being a music junkie. Actually, Journey music wasn’t supposed to be cool back then, right?

The first time I took noticed of SP was in 2005 when I watched him sing that verse in the We Are the World 20th Anniversary dvd. Then I bought the Journey GH dvd, and I was hooked. Watched it night after night for 2 weeks straight. The next thing I bought of theirs was Essential double cd and played that over and over again. Hubby thought I was going through mid-life crisis…suddenly listening to ‘80s music again (same kind of music we were listening to during our youth). Boys rolled their eyes at Mom hooked on “old folks music.” Then, it was on to their entire song catalog…bootlegs…internet fan sites…media print archives…anything I could find (purchase, beg, borrow, steal).

Having jumped on-board, there have been quite a bit of drama brewing in Journeyland, which I think helped ratchet(sp) my fan-interest up: the HWOF band get-together...SA & SP fans fighting cats & dogs...Tapegate ...hot rumors of SP coming back...JSS...AP. Presently, there seems to be some letdown in juicy storylines. Sad to say, for the first time in 5 years, I find myself caring less and less about SP and/or Journey.

I keep praying for that SP release, though .

Can't say Journey "changed" anything in my life, but their music has been a part of it.

Over the summer of 1979, I got dumped by my high school sweetheart. Tore the shit out of me. A song that helped get me through was Feelin' That Way. After pouting to When Your Alone it Ain't Easy -- verry loud, I'd change 8 tracks and crank the shit out of my Pioneer Supertuner with Jensen co-ax's and jam to FTW, with a gut feeling that things would work out.

Sure enough, school started, came out to the parking lot after our first football game, and there she was...standing by the light waiting for me. It was kind of sureal.

Later that year our favorite slow dance was Good Morning Girl/Stay Awhile.

We ended up breaking up for good the next fall after I went to college. My next girlfriend really loved the Escape album I bought her for her birthday. She literally wore the vinyl out. We soon caught a Journey concert and that helped get things going. We ended up getting married and have been for 24 years.

She's endured more shows than I care to count. Over time, she has tired of them, but will still go on occasion.

Send Her My Love. The song that got me hooked on Journey, Steve Perry's voice, Neal Schon's playing, and broke down a whole lot of numbness from my break up with the man I was supposed to marry, in a sudden rush of emotion. Still one of my favourite songs.

I think Lovin Touchin Squeezin was the one that made me decide I was in love with Steve Perry.
