What if...

Randy Jackson stirred up rumors back in 2009 that Steve Perry was getting ready to record some new material.

What if....

Neal Schon called Steve Perry shortly after this rumor came out and said, "Hey Steve - do you have your studio musicians lined up for the recording yet?" Steve replied, "No man... what do you have in mind?"

Steve Perry slips into the recording studio during Journey's recording of their 2010 new album and lays down some vocal tracks for two new songs. The former band members are spotted together in a restaurant after one of the recording sessions.

Herbie Herbert and Irving Azoff get greedy and begin planning the biggest comeback tour in rock history. Steve Perry agrees to sing five songs for each show, with Arnel Pineda singing the rest.

Gregg Rolie is tapped along with Steve Smith for a .38-Special-style dual drummer/dual keyboardist lineup for the 2011 Journey tour - along with dual lead singers!

Jonathan Cain (aka Jonny Friga) cries on CNN's Larry King Live show talking about how the Perry/Journey reunion has made him a better person and changed his life.

Just sayin'.... what if?

It would be great to see Steve Perry be a mentor on Idol, though.

Believe it or not, one person that would cherish this would be Arnel himself. SP is his hero.

Great segment...let's play "Is it you or Steve Perry?" The first clip they play is Steve Augeri and Arnel says so. And they say "you're right, it is Steve!!!" Then Arnel says it's Steve when it's his own clip playing.

Dummies.

Yeah right dude. Perry would have none of that little rat sharing a stage with him. He would boot that little fucker halfway back to the Islands...hero or no, there still is and always will be a huge dichotomy between the two, as well as a huge class difference in terms of achievement and stature.

Total garbage. The guy sang 5-6 nights a week for 5-6 hours for many years and finally got a break. After said break, he's dealt with a ton of fan bullshit (till a a #5 album, a million+ units moved and #1 DVD shut the vast majority of them the fuck up), foreign viruses because he wasn't immunized as a child and, according to many, is now on the road with the "most evil" fucking people on the planet. Please make up your minds. One minute he's got this cushy job that's easier than arresting Lindsey Lohan and the next he's on the road with Manson, Speck, Gacy and Dahmer.

I used to think about Perry reuniting with Journey quite a bit. Now, I only think about it every so often. But when I do think about it, I get pretty excited. I haven't been in this forum in ages, but whenever I check back I'm always hoping to see that one thread: "IT'S FINALLY HAPPENING". Haha

Nobody would enjoy that more than me (Sorry, but I don't count the bon bon-eating, near menopause, gaggle of overweight Loons), but the fact remians that he last sang the songs a half step down and was rumored to be singing them a full step down when they were clowning around during the TBF sessions. Someone that was in those sessions told me that "You just knew by what the songs sounded like when he was singing them a step down that it (the TBF tour) was probably never going to happen." In all fairness, he did say that Nostrildamus sounded really good, but that the songs sounded "very different" and wasn't sure how the fans would react. I think the money is there, the other members of Journey are there, the fans are there, but Perry isn't. The guy's just a quitter.

Yep, good summary. Of course, you and I wouldn't care what he sounds like! For me, the highlights would be the immense buildup of excitement, watching the facial expressions of Perry, Schon, etc. during the show, and hearing what would probably be the loudest screaming crowd I've ever heard. And of course, nailing some photos of it all. I can dream.

Journey has lived more years without Perry than with him. Of course it helps that Perry made a catalog of music famous before he went.

The guy finds excuses and he bails. He did it with The Sullies, he did it with Journey in 1986, he did it on the FTLOSM tour, and he did it again to Journey in 1996. He has unfinished project after unfinished project. More than one artist has expressed displeasure and frustration with having worked with the guy and the final product never seeing the light of day.

Who?

I'm with you on this one though; he's a quitter from the looks of it. He got the best voice in music history ever, and how he chose to waste it away on love drenched pop rock is beyond me. Seriously, Mr. Kittens could have been a lot more. Journey could have been as big as the Who if they hadn't went the keytar/Friga/Perry way.

People don't mention Schon (not to sure if he's to be anymore either. His playing has just deteriorated into a shitload of shredding) and Perry with the true greats if it wasn't for the mind numbingly retarded music they made from Frontiers -> TBF

The potential was there. :)
