Steve Augeri show on Sept. 10

Is anyone else on this forum going to the Steve Augeri show in Newport, KY (Cincinnati, OH) next Friday, Sept. 10th? I am and I can't wait. Can't help but wonder if he'll play anything off of Arrival, Red 13, or Generations. Also hoping he'll preview some of the stuff off of his upcoming solo album.

I would love to be able to go, but my wife just lost her job and money is going to be very scarce for the foreseeable future.

Hope that the show rocks, if you get a chance post some pics or even a video or two.

Maybe not Red 13, but I would bet he plays something at least off of Arrival. Why play some of the dirty dozen and nothing you did with the band. Depending on how long the show is, I'd guess probably 60% Journey material [half Perry songs & half Arrival & Generations tracks], 20% Tall Stories, and 20% new solo stuff. That breakdown would likely make the fans pretty happy.

I'm going!! Not sure about the venue though, I guess I'm just not fond of venues with tables. Anyway, can't wait to hear SA again.

I don't get him doing Journey songs that he wasn't part of.....on a solo tour. I'd pay top dollar to see him do 15-20 of the 35ish songs he did with Journey though.

I'll be there. Looks like an odd venue/setup but looking forward to seeing SA again.

Looks a lot like a BB Kings-type venue setup in NYC..

Eric, I respect your comment, and my guess is that Steve's known for singing Journey tunes, regardless to whether they were done with/without him on the record, and that is what the majority of the paying customers are coming to hear, and have fond memories of. Like when Journey plays anything other than the dirty dozen, everyone hits the restroom and consession lines, so he's going to play what he thinks they want to hear. I agree, I'd love to hear a bunch of the songs he fronted that were either never performed live or only done a couple times. And, if nothing else, though I am sure the band doesn't care, if he's 100% healthy and can pull of the Perry hits, it's a little bit of a poke at them saying, "Hey, I just needed some time to get healthy, and if you'd been patient I could still sing this stuff," not to mention I am sure he wants to prove to a lot of fans and other people that he still has what it takes.

Not sure I see it like that. Its been 5 years since he toured...the band has done like 250 shows and now recorded 2 albums without him. You couldn't have reasonably expected them to wait that long, especially at their stage of the game? Just my opinion.

Would love to hear him do: Kiss me Softly, I Got a Reason, I'm not that way, Time, Walking Away from the Edge, Beyond the Clouds, I Can Breathe......

You guys are overthinking this waaaay too much. SA is doing the Journey classics because he needs to actually sell tickets - and there's nothing wrong with that.

True, that was my point about saying that people are paying to see him sing those songs, not obscure solo, Tall Stories, or deep tracks off Arrival, Red13, and Generations. I just added a little commentary :)

you, me, and about 50 other people who are spread out over 50 states. He HAS to do the Journey classics to make it financially viable to tour---same as Perry did on the FTLOSM tour. Nobody wanted to pay to see Perry perform Street Talk, FTLOSM, and a few cover songs as a show. He had to do the Journey stuff just like Augeri will.

It will be interesting to see what Augeri actually performs, but he's going to have to do a fair amount of the classics or people will walk out and demand their money back. He's not playing to the diehards. That said, I would hope he plays a good percentage of his albums with and without Journey. Hopefully, we'll get a setlist.

gotta wonder about how his best friend Neal feels about him playing Journey material, especially material he didn't write.

Hopefully you guys will post some reviews and clips!

My guess is that Neal doesn't care, and knows that Steve has to play non-Augeri era Journey material as part of his set from a business side of things. He is probably, if he has any class, happy to see Steve healthy enough to perform again. Looking forward to some reviews and clips too! Noticed a CA date in Lake Tahoe in mid October "TBA"... depending on any other CA dates that might get added, I'd be interested to know if any of the J guys showed up to show some support. Vocal issues aside, I've never read that there was any bad blood between him and anyone in the band.

Glad to see Kiss Me Softly and All the Way in the setlist. I wish he would have chosen a couple different classics than Anyway You Want It and Stone in Love. But that's just me.

All I can say is... That is the absolute WORST that I've ever heard his voice sound! I'll buy his album when it comes out, but all of his range AND power are toast. His voice cracks all over the place, he's out of pitch a LOT, and that's while he's singing the lower notes. Sorry Steve, but that was terrible.

Man..poor guy, his voice is way different now. Yikes. Still like his presence - its pretty big league. Band doesn't sound terrible.

I hate using the quote system here and making box pyramids but I totally agree here, if that clip portrays his currently vocal range and abilities, he is done as a live singer.

Don't get me wrong Steve A. is a class act and treats the fans better than almost anybody (meet him after a concert in 2004) and I wish him nothing but great success. However that clip does him no favors, he sounds flat and leaves a listener looking for the big red x in the upper right hand corner of their internet browser.

SA has never really been able to pull off Higher Place live. Only decent recording I've heard is Vegas 2001- and that was done in the studio. That said, there's some good stuff here. NO, it's not studio quality, but there's some successful high notes, good use of mix voice. It sounds to me like Steve has thrown off the Journey straight jacket and is back to shrieking and howling like his good ole Tyketto days. Those complaining about him being off-key, flat, different voice etc. have a seriously rose-colored view of SA as a live vocalist.

He hits the high notes fine, but he sounds flat all over the place in the lower and mid register. But, who knows, I give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe it's a really bad video/sound and not how it was live.

But he looks great. He never ages. :D
