Hey there Andrew. Been meaning to ask you this for quite awhile now... are you still a Journey fan? I'm talking Current day here. We are all fans of the classic line up. Best of luck with the book!

No, I meant the forward. But the more I think about it, the less likely it seems that the big man would ever betray Neal. I'm moving my chips to JSS. Who better to pen the foward than someone who actually worked in the seedy trenches of NOMOTA? Plus, he's your buddy so he works cheap.

Having 12+ years of experience with the way Andrew likes to tease, my guess is that Andrew is the person writing the Foreward.

Any reference to the tapegate scandal and/or the Jeff Scott Soto debacle? Or is this the same old Steve Perry Journey that ends with Steve Augeri's arrival vs Arnel's arrival and nothing in between?

So I wonder how accurate this "unauthorized story" will be? Will it delve into the private lives of the band members, talk about Neals 4 marriages, Ross's coke problem, Deen's drug rehab, etc? Will the politics be all laid out in the open for all to see? Will the truth as to whether Perry actually had the hip surgery finally be told? Oh, so many questions in the mind of a Journey fan. :D

awesome news DREW...

my bet would be JSS as the forward writing... as someone else said earlier...

if i had great writing skills at all... I also think a Journey mystery/thriller theme would make a great novel...lots of subplots over time...you have motive, money and power...plus drugs, rock and roll and women...

While as intriguing as some of that info might be, unless those issues play a direct part in the band's story, there's no reason to go there.

Isn't JSS not supposed to talk? However, Andrew probably doesn't have that restriction, though I'd wonder if it might damage him with regards to doing future interviews with other bands.

Is Deano writing it? That would be interesting.

;)

WHEN will this be out?

Art, I understand that, but I was just wondering, since this is not going to be a book authorized by the band. Normally these kind of books take on a tabloid essence to them.

Unauthorized would be too risky for you Andrew. Dean always wrote that he wanted to write about Journey and I think that he knows more than most. I can see you writing the forward with disclaimers.

To clarify -

Book is being written by UK journaist Neil Danniels. I'm writing the foreword. JSS and Herbie are amongst those interviewed for the book, but I have not read any of the contents.

I doubt it - which is why I turned down an offer to write a book sometime back. I'd only do it if it was authorized and no topic was out of bounds.

How can you write the foreword if you haven't read the draft manuscript ?!?

I'm writing based on the band Journey and their history - not necessarily comments about the contents within. About the band's history in a nutshell as an intro to the book.

Why does the phrase "no offense" always mean that something offensive is about to follow? Kind of like how "not trying to stir the pot" means that's exactly what you're going to do.

Do you get to see it before giving final approval for your foreword to be used? If if were me, I'd worry about the book containing material I wouldn't want my name associated with. It's a slippery slope sometimes between what is in a book prospectus and what eventually turns out to be the final product.

Certainly you could do an intro without reading the book. Reading the prospectus might be fine but I think there's enough material in your head to write something clever and that pops! I think it has to be something fresh and something along the vein of not already been written about the band. It probably will be better if you don't read the book. Clever and smart should be just fine. I doubt if there would be anything in there you'd be sorry to have your name associated with. Have fun!

And I'm sure if Mr. P has much to do with it that it might be a bit sanitized.
