After all These Years

Please forgive me for this question. It's a serious one, due to the fact that I'm not all that jazzed about the current line up of Journey. However:

I have listened to a couple of songs from Revelation, one of them being AATY. I discovered just the other day a song from Bad English called When I See you Smile. Which, btw, I absolutely love. But it sure sounds to me that AATY is a remake of that song with different words.

Can someone please enlighten me if I'm hearing it right or am I crazy.

The Bad English song is a Diane Warren song that BE used. She has written a bunch of hit songs for virtually everybody and has a VERY distinct writing style--which is usually far too sappy and sugar-coated for my tastes.

AATY sounds like Cain through and through. I don't hear any similarity.

Okay, but the piano riff is EXACTLY the same in the two songs, the beginning one and in the middle. Funny, but I hear Cain in the BE song lyrics. He can get pretty sappy too.

BTW, thanks for the analogy. It's helpful

AATY is clearly one of AP's better ones for the rare moments when I want to hear that type of song. I was at an Indian casino a few weeks ago and they must be playing CDs because I heard a lot of music from Revelation, including re-records. Not a big fan of the retreads but he did a nice job on WCN.

It's been awhile for both songs for me. I was going to agree with Kgdj... but you may be right also, JR, as Jon plays the keys on both songs. Certainly, the 2 songs are nothing alike....but, if you listen to it back-to-back, you may hear a similarity with a piano note here and there.

I haven't listened to each song together, but it could be that they sound similar because they are in the same key and are using the same chords...

Turn Down the Lights Tonight...I like this song a lot, too. Best song on the entire album, imo, all the rest just so-so.
