Journey, Foreigner and Styx will be heading to the UK in June 2011 to play five cities together for the very first time in the UK.
On Journey’s return to Britain, guiatist Neal Schon said:

“We’re so excited to be coming back to the UK to play arenas with our friends Foreigner and Styx. Be prepared to hear a lot of hit songs.”

Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones adds:

“This will be one of the main events of the summer. Bands who represent the magic era in classic rock together for the first time in my home country. Get ready to rock!”

Styx guitarist James ‘JY’ Young enthuses:

“Styx has always enjoyed sharing the stage with Journey, going back to the Santa Monica Civic Center in 1976. The tour we did with them in 2003 across the United States was an amazing success of sold-out arenas. Journey, Foreigner and Styx seems like a can’t-miss ‘guitars a-blazin’, vocals amazin’ kind of a classic rock evening.”

The tour will be sponsored by the brand new magazine Classic Rock Presents AOR. Editor Geoff Barton had the following to say:

“With melodic rock on the resurgence, this tour is going to be one of the must-sees of 2011. We’re happy to set the ball rolling by featuring Journey on the cover of our brand new magazine, Classic Rock Presents
AOR, which goes on sale on November 17. And, of course, with Journey’s classic song Don’t Stop Believin’ enjoying a brand new lease of life, it was only right that the track, making it back into the Top 10 nearly 30 years after its release, would be in the running to receive ‘Event Of The Year’ at our prestigious Classic Rock Roll Of Honour Awards.”

The full dates for the Journey/Foreigner/Styx tour are as follows:

JUNE 2011

SATURDAY 04 LONDON WEMBLEY ARENA

SUNDAY 05 BIRMINGHAM LG ARENA

TUESDAY 07 NEWCASTLE METRO ARENA

WEDNESDAY 08 MANCHESTER EVENING NEWS ARENA

THURSDAY 09 GLASGOW SECC

Tickets go on sale 9am on Friday November 12 priced at £42.50 adv London / £40.00 regionally (subject to booking fee) and are available from www.livenation.co.uk

I was hoping someone would post the scarab that was on the MR homepage. What a beaut. You mean to tell me that "AOR magazine" has the pockets to commission better artwork than the band themselves? Easily cooler looking than the covers of Generations or Revelation.

Who would ever have thought that Steve Perry would have his name on the front of the premiere issue of a Rock magazine publication in the UK, let alone the mag that is sponsoring the current lineup's upcoming British tour?
The band's sixth member is indeed alive and well.

Bingo! This is about using whatever they can to sell the mag & the tour. Did the band & SP auth this?
I wonder how many (Euro) will go to these shows expecting to see SP?

later~

Just listened to Neal and Mick on Planet Rock talking about the tour. Mick was pretty gracious talking about Lou. Schon was his usual self, meaning backhand swipes and what not. Despite all the success they have enjoyed over the last few years, the guy is still either bitter or jealous when ever the conversation turns to Perry.
Why should the fans move on when Neal himself obviously can't?

Arnel might have made Jon a better person but it didn't work with Schon. What an asshole.

I don't think a guy stealing 10+ years away from the band that you founded ever goes away ... especially when your patience is rewarded with him singing Journey songs on tour with a gaggle of half-ass musicians (relatively speaking). It's like asking a rape victim why she still holds a grudge against her attacker, even though now she's happily married.

You know, I get the "Fuck Him" from a few years ago but for a guy who is supposed to be such a tough fuck AND enjoying a renniaisance as far as his career goes, he just comes off as a whiner sometimes (and up to a point, I thought Perry had that market cornered). As this mini-tour's sponsor is promoting the fuck out of the DSB angle, Schon better grow some thicker skin because this won't be the last time he hears Perry's name when it comes to this tour.
I'm gaining a new found respect for Cain everyday just by how well he handles himself compared to Schon. He should have done this interview instead.

I don't think anyone thinks Schon is the smartest tactical guy in the world, and in these interviews he shoots from the hip. He says what he feels, for better or for worse. I think the time that Neal waited for, and then had to fight over, his band with a guy that didn't even want to be in the band anymore left a lot of scars and bitterness. Somebody tried to sack and bury something he created. That ain't ever going away, man.

In fairness, the whole touring with Foreigner thing seemed to catch him completely off guard. He thought he was being interviewed for a Rock Awards show that he will be attending over there. He said he knew nothing about this package tour until that very moment. Even Mick said he was surprised but he seemed jazzed about it despite that.

Controversy draws press. Maybe it is all part of the plan. What do they say..........Bad press is better than no press. I don't know, just a thought. People love controversy. Just look what a couple little off the cuff comments has done for sparking the dialogue here.

I understand that speaking honestly is a valuable and good trait to have. I even can go with the pent up emotion that went with his "Fuck Him" from a few years back. Eventually though, it just comes off more as a person with a lot of spite who can no longer appreciate the good things in life. Steve Perry stole ten years from the band, okay whatever. So having a #1 song with Bad English wasn't a positive from that? Having a second life because of the new popularity of a song you wrote together with Perry 29 years ago isn't enough to allow you to even say the man's name in an interview?

At some point it just sounds like hate has stained this man's heart permanently. That's your life Neal and live it as you like, but don't be surprised at the people that are going to hate you right back because of it.

Mick Brought up Lou's name out of the blue but I think he was trying to turn the conversation away from where it had gotten to. The interviewer wasn't brining up Perry but with Journey related events, he is always the elephant in the room it seems.

2 things:

First, can you give a brief summary of the interview and how he didn't use his name ... and what the context was?

Second, I think you're overgeneralizing here. The guy is probably asked about Steve Perry/Steve Perry comes into the conversation, about once a month. I don't think Neal's life is any way altered other than when those memories are brought to the surface and, again, this is probably once a month at the most. He always seems happy and glad to be recording, touring and playing. I think he and Perry are polar opposites. Perry can't live on the road and Neal can't live without it.

I'll sum that up briefly.
Neal was asked about the three bands being in Europe and Neal mentioned how they had been there the last two years. How he planned for the band to be an international band but someone who won't be named didn't want to tour overseas. The interviewer repeats the "Won't be named part" and Mick sort of comes in right than about Lou and how they had great run together but things came to a head and it was time to move on. Neal is given space to segway to bring things back into a positive light but he talks about learning how the music is the most important thing and no one in the band is irreplacable.

You can say I'm over analyzing this but to me it's clear, he just can't bring himself because of his personal feelings to mention Perry or at least, like Jon is capable of, giving him some props for helping Journey break through in the late 70s/80s.

It's like playing a game with him. If he is shooting from the hip than at least be a man and announce your target. To act childish and refer to him as he who won't be named should be left to us idiot fans to do, not a professional like him, but then again we already covered Schon'social handicaps.

This was supposed to be an interview pimping the new tour but Neal for whatever reason let himself get sidetracked and just brought the whole tone down. Like I said, he said he didn't know anything about the tour package thing with Foreigner and Styx until that very moment so maybe that set him off center, I don't know.

All good points, but I wonder if he can mention Steve Perry's name (because it's a somewhat negative slant). And, if he can, he's just pointing out how fucking ridiculous that someone fought to have that silly clause implemented in the first place. But, yeah, arguably, he would be better served to just mention that they never toured there before because they "couldn't all agree to do so" or some equally generic answer. But we need fodder, man, so be careful what you wish for!
