Steve Augeri recognition ---in the Philippines :)

Postby wednesday's child » Fri Nov 26, 2010 8:03 am

Just a random Journey-related TV moment in Manila.

I was at a friends house for a barbecue, and saw this on the kitchen telly. A popular
noontime gameshow (Pilipinas Win na Win) quizzed the salt-of-the-earth contestants
"Which singer stepped in when Steve Perry left Journey?"

Image

30 lined up behind answer column B -- Arnel Pineda
5 lined up behind answer column A -- Steve Augeri

If nearly 1 out of 5 Filipinos know who Steve Augeri is, that can't be so bad, can it? 8)
Anyways, take care, everyone.
Definitely off it now...

I'm more concerned that over 80% don't know jack shit about the band or it's history and remain ignorantly blissful.
The ratios are about what I would expect, but kudos to the 5 who knew it was Augeri.

Exactly Steveo. The fucking douche like blind ignorance of the Flips is disgusting. These cumbreaths need to learn a little history...not everything revolves around Pineda. These "fans" have me starting to really dislike all things Pineda.

He's a non-entity...a spoof on erstwhile local celebrity Jograd de la Torre. So that was a bonus (non-)option. The 5 were non-contestants...they were rather filler gyrators, mainstay game enhancements. :P

2 questions....

1) Look at the TV screen. "parental Guidance?" Are you kidding me? For a game show?

2) How in the Hell did you get a screen shot of a TV game show?

1) The very thing...the production's a game show. It's saturated with unrehearsed hit-or-miss routines and is aired live at noon. You know, potential nip slips, undie peeks, crotch snaps, slanderous goofs, & whatnots.

2) Looks like a digital shot of an image on a CRT TV screen.

Filipinos are the only Asians poor at math. J/K.

Seriously, D., I couldn't decide if 5 or 6 had answered "Steve Augeri".
The frontmost of the 6 (guy in orange shirt) could be one of the show's hosts,
since he seems to be holding a mike, but you can easily count six people lined
up in column A. I'm not familiar enough with the program to know who's who, but
it seems to be immensely popular with the stay-at-home crowd.

As etcetera noted, most of the warm bodies on the screen are either dancers
helping to keep the contestants from switching at the last moment, or the
show's hosts. Also, bang on, about the TV being a CRT: I had the camera out to
take a pic of the roast pig, when I noticed what was on the kitchen TV.

Re-read what you just posted, Deano.
Sounds to me like you're tarring all "Flips" as "cumbreaths", and that may
be taking your angry middle-aged posting style too far, lol... As I'd implied
(and another poster echoed in this thread) the indication that nearly 1 out of 5
knows who Steve Augeri is, may actually be better than you'd observe if you
gameshowed some random Americans today.

Anyways... cheers, everyone.

BTW, I recall now that there was a musical performance preceding each music-related question,
and for this one, the hosts totally murdered "Foolish Heart".

... so I guess the question was really more Steve Perry related, than Journey. :P

Fuck you Andrew, It's the truth and you know it! These Goddamned Pinheads aren't Journey fans...that is my point. They could care less about the history of the band. For them, Journey started life when Pineda joined the band. I have a real hard time with that. When these cheesedicks say they don't know or never heard of Just the Same Way, or they have no idea what the fuck Infinity is, then yes, that pisses me off.

Fuck, I feel like a possum's pecker. I in no way meant to insult the Filipino nation. I think all the Pinheads are rodent eating shitsperms, but yeah, I went too far. I apologize to the GOOD Filipino's. This is a Pinhead thing to me, not a Filipino thing, just to be clear.

Too gross, lol.

...and snap out of it, you old fart
I was just pointing out what I thought was a misstep. We all make those from time to time,
and giving each other a heads-up when it happens is just "being neighborly".

I pray some 'pinheads' might take the same generous attitude towards your, err, unique
brand of "being neighborly" about what you feel are THEIR missteps.

Cheers.

Sure they are. You don't define the criteria to be a fan. You like to gargle on the drunken sperm of Nostrildamus and they gargle Pineda's ... big deal. It's painfully obvious that you don't like them having their moment in the sun, but when your buddy got to sing lead you were saying he was "better live than Perry ever was" and that they would "no longer even want Perry in the band if given the chance." And while some Pinoys may have never heard Just The Same Way, at the very least, they can claim ignorance. What the fuck is your excuse?!?!

Rockindeano wrote: They could care less about the history of the band. For them, Journey started life when Pineda joined the band. I have a real hard time with that.

Hard time? I don't care if you can pound rivets into angle iron with your dick, no one needs to learn any sort of history regarding the band unless they want to. That doesn't make them any lesser fans. You like what you like, for whatever reason(s), and try as you might, you're not going to sway anyone.

A "fan" is simply someone that supports the band. Period.

Well, perhaps they're equally as incensed that you don't know the lyrics to What I Needed, but you don't see them blowing a fucking gasket over it.

I definitely see both points here ...but I'm a little incensed that the Pinheads don't even
know the words to What I Needed!! The DD, that is what they know, the DD from
the refurbished seconds lp!! Watch them at a show, they all sit when the Revelation
tunes are played!! Hopefully the Hindu stuff will stick!! :?
They can be whatever kind of fans they want to be!! Right now I'm
pretty sure most of them are fans of one of theirs singing music made famous
by someone else ...and it doesn't matter who the someone is!!

I'm gonna vehemently disagree that they don't know the words to What I Needed or any other song off of Revelation! Perhaps there were some in The Philippines, but the vast majority of the Pinoys in the U.S. that I've come in contact with can tell you the liner notes backwards!

And I certainly agree that the vast majority of new Pinoy fans are there because Arnel is Filipino. Just like Obama garnering 95% of the black vote, people have a tendency to "support their own." It just happens.
