probably....but the soul vocal stylings came much more forward on Frontiers than Escape. You hear a massive style overhaul of his singing starting with Frontiers and coming out on Street Talk/ROR. He was doing things on those albums that you never heard on Escape and the earlier cds.

Two things-

1) Joe Paterno is 59 times tougher than Steve Perry. Hell, Joe Paterno is tougher than anyone except Brett Favre.


2) Of course Perry's PR team went through this article. He has a pretty good reputation to uphold. Why would he want erroneous information being spewed by some upstart Euro magazine? Remember, Perry went out at the top or near the top...he does have a sparkling legacy.....whereas Journey continues to soldier on....let me ask you this Daniel. If Rolling Stone had published a tell all about Tapegate, do you think Journey Mgt would sift through that and either edit the whole Goddamned thing or basically refute it all? Of course they would. Thankfully, even though Perry does have skeletons in his closet(we all do), his aren't near as damning as Journey the band post 1998 are.

3) Bonus point- Although you are entitled to your personal opinion, you are coming real close to false accusations regarding Perry's physical condition. You cannot possibly know the exact circumstances that surrounded the man back then. Only he himself knows exactly what transpired and what did not. I know you like to sort shit out and assume things- we all do that here, for it's a message board. But this is bordering on something pretty serious if you ask me. I think the man should be afforded the benefit of the doubt here. That's all I am saying.

#1 I can agree with, #2 I can agree with, but #3 reeks of more cow towing to the PR team. I cannot give the benefit of the doubt to a guy that fired the manager that was a huge part of making this band great, and everything that said manager predicted turned out to be a true. That's the guy that gets the benefit of the doubt. But I see you're back to being mini-Lee.

A hip replacement, in 2010, is a pretty straight forward operation. The whole "went to Hawaii to hike and eat pineapples, and suddenly got osteoarthritis" is obviously bullshit. This stuff is not like a flu. Even more so; an operation is usually suggested when all other treatment methods fail. But then again; I get Perry. He didn't have any voice left, a shitload of heat tiles was hitting his face or whatever. It really doesn't matter. It may be douchey, but deciding whether or not to do the surgery was choice; not Friga's or Neal's, even though the right thing would've been to get it over with and get the tour started.

You'll be out of the hospital in a weeks time, but full recovery takes at least a few months.

They gave him almost 2 years to decide what he was going to do, and when that time was up he was no closer to a decision. Probably because of the reasons you mentioned.
