The magazine has a lengthy interview with Perry about Escape.

They're sponsoring Journey's UK tour. Considering its Journey, a little fudging of the band's history is probably in order along with some errors too.

No wonder Schon didn't sound happy about this UK tour. His Sponsor is hyping the wrong singer!

Still waiting for my issue in the mail. Looking forward to reading it, especially the Heart feature. (And I would hope Ann is not too far behind Mr. Perry on this list.)

probably....but the soul vocal stylings came much more forward on Frontiers than Escape. You hear a massive style overhaul of his singing starting with Frontiers and coming out on Street Talk/ROR. He was doing things on those albums that you never heard on Escape and the earlier cds.

lol ...but they got it right!! Now all the pinheads will know who he is!!

Love this ...
"And his mere existence is a reminder that you can’t make it up; you have to hear him.
In fact you have to hear Perry before you can even imagine that this talent is something
that could even be made up."

I see a 1976 appointment and 1981~Frontiers ...what else?!?
Boyish Looks?!?! Charming Smile?!?! True ...all true.

As the undisputed KING of the power ballad, Perry reigned supreme!!

I now know why Neal spouted off that Ap was King ...poor little bitter man!! :?

If they don't know who Perry is from all the dirty dozen, I don't think a silly magazine article will change anything.

I was being a bit facetious, but this^^^is true!! If they don't know by now, it's because they choose not to.
Their loss ...they have Arnel ...WE have Perry ... !!

"Perry finally vacated the Journey mic stand in 1997, when an injury to his hip while hiking in Hawaii meant he couldn't tour with the group without a painful replacement surgery, which, understandably, he was reluctant to undergo."

"Understandably"??? I see this "interview" and its opinions were sifted through with a fine tooth comb by the Nostrildamus PR team. What a load of bullshit that line is. Not getting hip replacement surgery is painful! Ahh ... the lies continue.

"Joe Paterno had successful hip replacement surgery at Mount Nittany Medical Center today, according to a Penn State release.

The Nittany Lions coach is expected to be up and walking by tomorrow, the release said, and will resume his coaching responsibilities next Monday when the team returns from Thanksgiving break."

Two things-

1) Joe Paterno is 59 times tougher than Steve Perry. Hell, Joe Paterno is tougher than anyone except Brett Favre.

2) Of course Perry's PR team went through this article. He has a pretty good reputation to uphold. Why would he want erroneous information being spewed by some upstart Euro magazine? Remember, Perry went out at the top or near the top...he does have a sparkling legacy.....whereas Journey continues to soldier on....let me ask you this Daniel. If Rolling Stone had published a tell all about Tapegate, do you think Journey Mgt would sift through that and either edit the whole Goddamned thing or basically refute it all? Of course they would. Thankfully, even though Perry does have skeletons in his closet(we all do), his aren't near as damning as Journey the band post 1998 are.

3) Bonus point- :) Although you are entitled to your personal opinion, you are coming real close to false accusations regarding Perry's physical condition. You cannot possibly know the exact circumstances that surrounded the man back then. Only he himself knows exactly what transpired and what did not. I know you like to sort shit out and assume things- we all do that here, for it's a message board. But this is bordering on something pretty serious if you ask me. I think the man should be afforded the benefit of the doubt here. That's all I am saying.

#1 I can agree with, #2 I can agree with, but #3 reeks of more cow towing to the PR team. I cannot give the benefit of the doubt to a guy that fired the manager that was a huge part of making this band great, and everything that said manager predicted turned out to be a true. That's the guy that gets the benefit of the doubt. But I see you're back to being mini-Lee.

I just dug up this interview from 1982.

"The reason we could only play x amount of nights in LA was that Journey was playing there and they too had a multiple night stand at the Forum. In fact, that is the initial reason we started playing the Sports Arena. Man, Journey was good. Steve Perry is one of the finest singers I have ever heard. I would put him right up there with Sam Moore and Jackie Wilson. Just an amazing talent".-Bruce Springsteen, 1982

Nothing like respect from your peers.

ahh ok. With all the rightful comparisons to Sam Cooke, wasn't sure if it was a misprint or what.

Dude, go downstairs one flight and post this link there. You will literally feel the ground shake as the Loons all simultaneously cream themselves. My God, they will LOVE you to death. Every time I speak of Espee, I add a little sugar into the recipe, thus guaranteeing myself positive feedback from the Loon community. :)

Fuck it, I'll take this link down there for you. :)

A hip replacement, in 2010, is a pretty straight forward operation. The whole "went to Hawaii to hike and eat pineapples, and suddenly got osteoarthritis" is obviously bullshit. This stuff is not like a flu. Even more so; an operation is usually suggested when all other treatment methods fail. But then again; I get Perry. He didn't have any voice left, a shitload of heat tiles was hitting his face or whatever. It really doesn't matter. It may be douchey, but deciding whether or not to do the surgery was choice; not Friga's or Neal's, even though the right thing would've been to get it over with and get the tour started.

You'll be out of the hospital in a weeks time, but full recovery takes at least a few months.

They gave him almost 2 years to decide what he was going to do, and when that time was up he was no closer to a decision. Probably because of the reasons you mentioned.
