Sounds like a bought award. It'll win.

And it's on Columbia Records. What a coincidence.

A little bittersweet.

The members of Journey won't get anything if the song wins. The GRAMMYs would be awarded to the song's performers, and not the songwriters in this case.

Yeah, but at least they got their name on something with a Grammy....maybe.

This will be the place where Perry Shows up, probably at the invitation of the show's producer.

You took the words right out of my mouth Mr Legal Eagle. I was thinking the same thing. LOL, Journey will be busting their ass out on the road and Espee will be chillin' with a trophy and a bunch of free good pub. If dude does in fact have an album forthcoming, he sure knows how to play the media, don't he?

He's a skinnier version of Irving Azoff.

Who is, Espee? Last time I saw Azoff, fucker was walking into a spritzy LA Cafe restaurant, he was pretty thin. Last time I saw Perry, he wasn't his 1979 Evolution skinny self. He had a few lbs hanging around his guy...not at all fat mind you, but you can tell he is up there in age.

Indeed, especially when that version is so awful to the vast majority of, dare I say, old fans!!

You think Perry doesn't have a say in that? Not happening.

I hear you.

I don't watch the show, and don't want anything to do with it.

I have heard some of these "official" karaoke-ized versions of the songs that are featured on the show, however. They are absolutely atrocious, and this version of "Don't Stop Believin'" is comparable to low-grade dog food. Just terrible.

The fact that this recording received a GRAMMY nomination, and the original was snubbed in 1981 is ridiculous.

But as they say, any publicity is good...and at the very least, this somehow translates to positive publicity for Journey, even though, as pointed out, should the recording win the Journey members will not get statues.

They're all a bit lame, IMO, to be considered for an award of that stature. :::cough:::

Glee is a freakin' TV show, NOT an established duo or group! Awards shows truly are beyond ridiculous and blatantly gratuitous!!!

Gimme a friggin' break. This auto tuned bullshit is nominated for a GRAMMY??? While the arrangement is decent, I cannot believe that the music industry supports (and rewards) performers that use AT. They should not be allowed to receive grammies if AT is used on the recordings. It's like a baseball player getting into the Hall of Fame while using steroids. If you can't sing, leave it to those that can, or do enough takes of the track until you can sing on pitch. Man, if I used AT at a gig, I'd be laughed outta the house. How come "singers" today can get away with doing this?

Sorry, I think it's BS of the worst kind. I know that I beat this drum a lot, but for a show about singers to be using autotune (and getting rewarded for it) is crap. It's like if you went to see Charlie Watts, Ringo Starr, or Neil Peart and all they had in front of them was a Casio Drum Machine. Just hit the start button Charlie. Stupid.

By the way "Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer" beat Glee in the ratings the other night. I was overjoyed. I sat through the episode the other night (we own the Rudolph DVD and save it for when we're drinking and wrapping gifts) where they sang Train's tune (another song I'm absolutely sick of). It was terrible and I don't get why people love this show so much. Talk about corporate.

Journey's version of DSB is freakin' classic. Expertly sang. Expertly played. Yet this wasn't good enough?

My vote for best song goes to the "F You" song. That is a great tune and that guy IS a good singer.

Maybe we'll at least see Perry, Schon, & Cain in the audience at the Grammys.
Who knows what could happen from there.

later~

I agree. The Grammy's over the years I feel has lost alot. I use to look forward to watching them but over the past years I could have cared less if I watched them. I am happy that DSB will be getting recognition and it will bring Journey and Steve some more spotlight but nominating a tv show at the Grammy's....please.......

I think it's the ultimate compliment that a hip, young show chooses to channel a great song from the past. A entirely new generation gets to appreciate a great song, and by entension, the band. Granted, the Glee version's a little cheesy, but very surprised by the backlash on this board.

While everything you say is true, we've been spoiled by the real thing! SP set the bar so high, some say he can't
even reach it!! So sad for these young people, the ones who don't have cool parents, like us  , who think this is
an example of real music/talent!! From everything I've read here about auto~tuning, I could be a rock star ...who wants
that?!?! We may not agree on everything around here, but we all, for the most part, recognize real talent!! Good
for the song, good for the writers ...but that's as far as I can go!!

Understood. But my point is - these shows could pick any songs they want - but they're selecting Journey songs out of respect. They realize they're great songs.
What's the alternative? That our "dirty dozen" go to their classic rock graves? I'm glad the songs I grew up with are on my kids' ipods.... even if they're covers. :)

Not me, mister!! There are just certain things in this life that must be original!!
Would you be satisfied with a nanny giving all the love to your children?!? ...as long as they're being loved?!?
Extreme?! A tad ...but so is the music!! The real thing first ...covers later!!!
God forbid my girls ever thinking that Mariah originated OA ...and I think Mariah is talented!!

I agree, MG.

As a matter of fact, what Steve Perry said in the Classic Rock AOR issue seems pretty appropriate:

"I stay away from covers. I just want to keep the definitive versions in my mind and my heart...."

Ah, but see WE KNOW the originals exist. So of course WE prefer them. But isn't it still a good thing for the band if a whole new generation discovers them through osmosis, rather than not at all? Because otherwise let's face it - they're not going to be playing "After All These Years" on top 40 radio.

Actually the original version of DSB outlasted the Glee cover on the UK Hot 100 charts, Just coming off of the chart after a year this last month. Does that mean British fans are smarter in their purchasing, knowing the difference between what's original and what's not?
