I was looking at Van Halen's setlist from 2008 and how it was almost devoid of anything From Hagar's time in the band, even though that was when they had a lot of their big hits.
I was thinking, if they could do it successfully, why not Journey? Not a 100% whiteout but just a few limited numbers to give a nod to that period but nothing more than that.

It's just hard to do that for any band even with the original singer. Madonna has done it. She was gone nine years and came back in 2001 and toured behind her last two newer albums, which were darker, and only did TWO '80S HITS. There was an uproar. But even with her touring three more times this decade, her last two tours only held four 80s songs. All the rest she does a huge majority off her newest album she's touring behind and maybe several off her newer albums in late 90s or this decade. She's pretty fearless that way, even though most love her 80s music the best and want more.

But most bands from the 70s and 80s can't get away with that. They have to include quite a few of their heydey 80s tunes to make people happy. To make me happy. LOL

But to answer your question: Send Her My Love, Faithfully, Only The Young, Lights, Ask The Lonely, Separate Ways. I can't do five. Sorry. It makes me sad I need ten songs. LOL And I need a freakin' two-hour set from them, anyway, instead of 90 minutes.

LTS would be the first one to go.

I would say Anyway You Want It, Ask The lonely, Only The Young, Wheel In The Sky and Separate Ways. I would try my best to phase out DSB. It has been overplayed to death. They need to find a way to untie their fortunes from that one song and make it gradually go away.

What if they simply changed the playlist for those five songs every show. Would you be okay going to a concert not knowing what you were getting from the back catalog, would it make any difference to you?

I would choose After the fall, Party's Over, Girl Can't Help It, Happy to Give, Separate Ways.

And if I could pick one from the Augeri era, it'd be: To Be Alive Again.

Difference with Van Halen is they had 2 very distinct histories - two lead singers with equal legacy and hits on both eras. No way Dave is ever going to sing Hagar stuff.

And easier to have and create separate eras because David started in '75 and Sammy, who was established, too, took over in '85. They were still a young band with a young fan base.

What is funny about Van Halen is though Sammy brought them the hits, their most successful albums, the two that are Diamond, are the first one and the last one they did with Roth (Van Halen, 1984).
