Part 1 online THURSDAY. Part 2 online week of January 10.
Teaser 1:
You don’t just get a producer because you want to have a name on there-you are trying to get something done. A band like Journey have got guitar techs and piano techs and bass techs and everyone. We have grand pianos and we have tuners in everyday. Everyone’s got a hotel room and the budgets. We have tour managers and people holding their hand and wiping their ass.
It’s just like this mammoth undertaking every time they get to do anything.
So, you know you can’t just go in there and fuck around for four months or six months because things are not getting done.

After watching the new Mr Big dvd with the "Making Of: What If......" with all the great footage of Kevin and the guys in his studio.......then reading this.

I'll bet the two experiences were like night and day.
Very much looking forward to reading this interview, thanks Andrew.

I wouldn't automatically assume he is not referring to the TBF sessions. I don't reacll that much time being spent on the others. I believe he is just saying there is so much overhead with the number on the payroll that they can't afford to take months. Then again, if this is supposed to be a big teaser maybe I'm reading it wrong.

Pretty revealing that Shirley is speaking out about the recording process before the album is out. Unconfirmed rumors existed about the TBF sessions (Perry threatening to throw a fire extinguisher) and Arrival (Augeri blowing a vocal chord singing With Your Love). But like any good producer, Shirley kept his silence and remained loyal. The band has obviously fucked up big time.

You can deduce this from a small snippet of an interview? Amazing!

Maybe he was talking about the upcoming concept album about a ballad of a city boy born and raised in the south Philippines.

I wonder if this will be the last album Shirley wil be working with the band on? Kevin's got a great stable of bands already. With Iron Maiden, he just had a top ten release stateside and #1 internationally on charts throughout Europe. I doubt if it's going to be any skin off of his nose if someone gets bent out of shape on anything he says. He might just be tired of certain artists, it happens.

Shirley also bitched about the band recently in a separate publication. Anyone who knows his professional style, knows something's up. Since when does a producer (any producer) bad mouth their own project?

Openly saying that Perry has major control in the group and can get back in if he wants, I would say that Kevin isn't too concerend anymore about pissing the band off.

Yeah, exactly. And, throwing out some controversy now to entice readers only starts the PR machine for the band/new album. He might get a little rough, but it's all orchestrated. He'll reel it all back in and finish on a good note with something like "I'm really excited about this album. We worked hard on getting all the parts right, and Arnel is such a great singer. It's the best we've ever done".
You know the cliches.

Well...when the music isn't good enough to garner attention for your band - a nice juicy interview chock full of supposed inside info should do the trick....
I'm fucking embarrassed for this band....

Great another member of the Family Obtuse is found....
Yes, I've heard
Revelation, and nothing I heard from that album makes me wanna run out and get the next one....but if I get the chance to read/hear an interview chock full of juicy gossip about how difficult the recording process was, or how it was very competitive selecting songs - and how each member brought tunes to the table and Arnel had some ideas that Napoleon and the Tear Master shot down....or how Mr. Teary wanted 6 ballads, and Bonaparte wanted all rockers.....blah, blah, blah.....I just wanna check it out. For the comedy factor....mind you....

I was thinking the TBF project took much longer than the last three recordings with KS, but its been a long time I could be wrong.
TNC may have a point, though I haven't seen anyhing I'd really call bad mouthing to this point. I had viewed the comments about NS and JC butting heads to be a positive thing creativity-wise.

I agree. The haters just like to spend their life trying to find something negative out about Journey. Its their obsession...and its pretty fucking pathetic.

Yeah, that's what people spend their lives doing!! Just like the Perry Bashers spend their lives
dreaming up
yet another reason to hate Perry ...is this what
Bolero was doing with the TBF comment?!?
I don't think so, he made a very valid point and I countered w/another very valid point!! Now, I could
go your route and say he's obsessed w/finding negative things to say about the Perry era ...THINK, Chip!!!

Actually Perry threw a temper tantrum and allegedly threw a fire extinguisher during the recording of FTLOSM, damaging a hard drive containing matereial for Jimbo Barton's Queensryche sessions.
In the recent interview KS said he didn't see any of the tension during the actual TBF sessions. I know that during the sessions, Perry was uncomfortable during the vocal tracking and did most of the actual vocal tracking at Cain's house.
I wouldn't assume that Kevin will be openly critical of the band in the upcoming interview as he specifically dodged the opportunity to do so in that other recent interview, saying it wasn't the time to be critical of anything before the record even came out.

Wasn't the fire extinguisher from FTLOSM? Then there was something about Perry destroying some equipment or something, too.

LOL...a producer making a comment isn't exactly starting PR. Didn't help much for Arrival....KS had a LOT to say about that one.
