Hell, for that matter, the SP era may have been shortlived. YouTube sometimes makes anyone sound like shit.
eh, I don't agree. Perry sang his ass off. Had incredible feeling and his live pitch was absolutely superb. Around Frontiers, the wear started showing, but his pitch and tone was always great. On the ROR tour, you can hear him cracking a lot, but again, his pitch and tone was always great.
Augeri's live pitch was always bad. Always. He never had the kind of power that Perry or Arnel does.
A mutual voice teacher told me once that "Journey has always been a hard gig for Steve (augeri)".
Having said that, I still like him.
SA was offered the chance of a lifetime. Of COURSE he had to take it. Anybody would. Unfortunately, the road made things worse for him and his issues compounded until it ended up the way it did. It's too bad. His recorded stuff is really good. The Tall Stories album was also a great album, but Journey's catalog is extremely tough and it took it's toll on Perry and Augeri both. I'll continue to support his recorded output, though I don't see myself wanting to see him live. I saw him in 98 and I knew then that he wasn't the guy for the gig. Just didn't have the power. I can remember the money note on DSB being sung in falsetto, and a weak one at that. Like I said, I like him, but it was a tough gig for him.
