Some people are going to bitch and moan but this is actually fairly decent. Cain does a good job and can sometimes hold a nice note.

One great piano player but some people shouldn't try to sing. I can say that because I am one of them, minus the piano playing. Cain and Schon should play their respective instruments and leave the singing to the hired hand.

Although I do dig this tune quite a bit.

Honestly, in my opinion Jonathan Cain probably sings those songs probably the most accurate way, you would think? because he did write those tunes, but wouldn't he have the say on which note to sing, and how to do it?.

I think he's the best.

That was excellent and, as noted earlier, the varaition of Separate Ways was creative and extremely well done. I would LOVE to hear Separate Ways done with an orchestra. :)

depending on how much Perry wrote, you might get something very close to the original demo. Perry--and any other lead singer out there--had a very defined vocal style, and is going to add his touch onto the melodies and phrasing. May be better than the demo, may be worse, but any singer of Perry's caliber will have a contribution that is very noticeable, even if they didn't write one lyric in the song.

True, Cain himself said one time that he could write a song and lyric and give it to Perry, and he would hand it back in with something completely new and magical about it that there was no tangible way of measuring.

I think Cain has a decent enough voice. Obviously he had to tinker with the keys of the songs to suit his range, but I thought this was a good performance. It almost reminds me of something you'd hear in a hotel lounge setting by the fireplace.

It also got me thinking how it would it might be cool if Cain did an album of Journey songs arranged for solo piano.

Perfect example is Faithfully...which Jon once was quoted saying..."he took this song I wrote and made it completely his own." And, the same could be said about any of Journey's classic tunes (sigh!).
