Neil Daniels book - a biography of rock band Journey

PROLIFIC St Helens author Neil Daniels has published his latest offering ... a biography of rock band Journey, writes Andy Moffatt.

Twenty eight-year-old Neil, who works as a librian at Rainhill High School, interviewed a number of band insiders in the process of writing the book.

It’s his eighth tome and covers the entire career of the band, who have sold an incredible 75 million records worldwide.

During their prime in the 1980s, Journey scored a number of hits, including Lights, Open Arms and Only the Young.

But they found fresh appeal when one of their songs, Don’t Stop Believin’, became a stable song in the hit TV show Glee.

“The is book is called Don’t Stop Believin’ - The Untold Story Of Journey and charts the band’s history from their early jazz fusion days to their AOR years with Steve Perry right up to this year with the success of Glee,” said Neil, of Manville Street, Peasley Cross.

“It’s the first ever biography of Journey and will be published in paperback by Omnibus Press, the world’s biggest and most prestigious publisher of music books.

Meanwhile, Neil’s biography on Judas Priest has been translated into French, while the band themselves are about to embark on a farewell tour later this year.

The Priest are unlikely to be offering Neil (pictured) a VIP backstage pass, though. The hard rock outfit took exception to his unauthorised biography of them, with the band eventually taking to their website to denounce the book.

n Don’t Stop Believin’ is out on Omnibus Press

LOL.

Can't wait for this one.

What you want to wager Steve Perry had "throat cancer" back in the late 80's when the band broke up? This will be a colossal waste of time. A guaranteed piece of shit. He interviewd "band insiders?" oooh, I just bet we'll get the goods on everything that is true and real.

Sad thing is, some yahoo from this site will buy this garbage.

Why? Being objective, which I doubt you have the ability to do, hence the email, means at least reading the fucking book first. You look like a fucking newbie, going off half cocked before you've even read the foreward. You remind me of someone who buys a new computer but can't install the printer, yet calls in and goes off on a support person because your shit doesn't work. RTM, says the support person. Huh? RTFM!! says the support person. Huh? Read the fucking manual! RTFMD! Huh? READ THE FUCKING MANUAL, DEANO!

Also not the first ever biography of Journey. Robyn Flans' book was more fan-friendly based and is now outdated, but still a fun read for the time with lots of good pics.

Not involved in ANY way....aside from writing a generic foreword for the book. Pretty short, but a few words from me.

I hope to get this book soon. Even if it sucks, the jacket might have a nice enough image of the boys to start the Journey wall in my room, opposite KISS and adjacent to Johnny Cash

My girlfriend lives very close to this guys school, I may have to pop over to get a signed copy.

Good luck to the guy, and those having a go, cut him a break. At least he is trying to do something in life.

Since nondisclosure agreements are the rule of the day, I would think the band might even come out and say we do not endorse this at all.
(depending of course on whether it sells enough to merit a response)

Let me just interject something here. WAY before I had ever published my Styx book, I had certain fans debating its contents and my intentions in public, trashing me seven ways to Sunday - well before they had any chance of knowing what I had written. Some of that took place on the Styx forum right here on MelRock. And it actually worked out well for me, because I'm more than capable of handling myself, and I was able to sway a lot of fans to my side that way. But I also had things happen like, one nutso Styx fan spoofed my email address to send out a virus disguised as a press release from me. Others spoke personally to some of the band members to warn them that I was "out to get them."

Remember how that all turned out, sports fans? Exceptional reviews, great sales, and an overwhelming consensus from both fans and media that I'd gone right down the middle and gotten it right. And in the end even the band members mostly came around, and I've done business with them since then in a very friendly manner.

The point I'm trying to make is, why not wait until you actually know something about the contents of this book before being a dick to the guy who wrote it - whom I assume you've never even met? What if this book turns out to be great? I couldn't agree more that the story of Journey is going to be very, very difficult to get right - in fact, I looked into writing it myself and decided it was impossible before laying it aside. But I plan to read this book thoroughly before deciding whether he did the job or not.

By the way, even if this book turns out not to be a definitive job, does that excuse being a jackass to someone you don't know?
