Another band I would love to see tour w/ Journey in 2011

Postby Escape Artist » Sat Jan 29, 2011 3:16 am

The Outfield. One of my all time favorites. They toured with Journey in the late 80's and I believe they would be a good draw. They also have a new CD coming out this year and have already had some airplay and success with the first single off of the forthcoming CD.

You want a music legend like Bob Seger to open for Journey?

Saw them open for Journey in 2002 in Big Flats. Awful. They closed with 2 covers.

"Your Love" is an all-time classic, but other than that I'm not much of a fan.

the question was tour with... not open for.... he thought outfield... no one (media) would care NATIONALLY if it were the outfield... SEGER... EVERYONE WOULD CARE...

Seger would have to open for Journey. He's not that significant a draw without another major act on the ticket...and besides, his music all sounds exactly the same. Boring.

The Outfield. Now THAT is a GREAT idea.

You are literally the first person I've ever heard say anything negative about their live performance. I went to that same show four times that year. They're incredible live - even more so in a mid-sized venue. Vastly underrated band.

I thought they lacked energy and a catalog to keep the masses interested even for a short set. I'm not a fan of covers usually, especially multiple, and especially during a short set so I'm biased on that front. Heart sounded amazing to me, but they only played 7-8 of their own songs during the 2008 tour. That drops grades in my book.

They have the same number of albums in their catalogue as Journey (8).

But Journey can roll out 25-30 songs that most people know by heart, whereas the Outfield would have their 3.

What's not fair though is a band never seems to be as good in the light (opening at 7).

I wonder if that's why Billy Squier sucked much more than I remember from 1983.

at one time before the Journey/ Heart tour... there was a thought that Neal would have loved to do a Journey/Queen tour...that would be another good partner this time around... if Queen wants to go out again...

I have seen the Outfield 6 times and they were never anywhere close to awful. I have also never heard anyone say that before. but, everyone has an opinion.

I thought you were joking but see no  's.

I think Seger will do just fine without another major act. You have to be the first person I have ever heard compare the Outfield over Bob Seger. I am shocked really.

Also Eric, what is so bad with playing covers? A lot of big acts do so. Bruce plays 2 or 3 per night, the Stones do too, as well The Who. I don't get the hate for covers.

As much as i would like to see the Outfield play on trhis tour, the simplke fact is nobody knows of them here in the USA. hell, Glass Tiger is another outstanding band(Canada), who has some stellar(more) songs than the Outfield IMHO. They are a cross between a U2 and a harder REO.

One of the most over-rated bands ever.
I saw The Outfield open for HEART back in'86. their "threesome" was backed by three additional band members, and not one song was recognizable live.

I just don't like covers for bands that have catalogs of their own. However, playing them live is cool sometimes I suppose. Frampton played "While my Guitar gently weeps" live and it was awesome. And its not the Heart's "Reign O'er Me" wasn't spine tingly good...but I still wanted to hear more of their material. What I have no tolerance for is when a band releases a cover and it becomes a hit.

I have and enjoy The Outfield's GH, but the crowd is general didn't recognize them much, and maybe their sound guy/venue hurt the sound but it took me a minute to realize what song they were playing sometimes.

Wait, has your musical criteria changed? They are only playing casinos and clubs (not arenas) here now, yet you still like them and consider them talented? Hmmm.....

This sounds like the Mountain Aire concert that kicked of the ROR tour. Serious Deja Vu. Just need to call up Andy Taylor (LOL). Anyway, since we are throwing out older, lower tier bands here. Hows about Shooting Star. Isn't Chalfant singing with those boys these days anyway?

Glass Tiger has NEVER played arenas on their own Deb, and I have always liked them. I thought Frew mimicked Bono pretty good in 86, when they opened for Journey.

Besides, we have already established that there are only 5-6 bands that play arenas nowadays on their own, so....

I wish Neal would consider someone like Lucinda Williams or George Jones or John Prine or the Chieftains or Ry Cooder or Monsters of Folk, dang I've got a whole bunch I'm thinking of but *sigh* that will never happen I suppose. I can imagine him playing with Lucinda Williams or Dwight Yoakum--I think he would be great with any of these musicians..
