Question for Jeremey

Jeremey:

After the success of "Never Walk Away," has the band or management ever approached you to write any new material for or with the band? If Arnel's only got two songwriting credits on the new record, it can't be the "magic" process Neal was hoping for when he harkened back to his songwriting days with SP. I was just curious if they - or you - would be open to contributions.

Jeremey uses backing tapes, live!

Okay, now that we've gotten that out of the way, the rest of the discussion should be able to stay on track.

I think it's fairly clear by now that Neal and Jon are not interested in finding that missing X-factor. I think Cain prides himself on being the band's resident lyricist and all-around music man. Too bad the material has suffered w/out Perry or someone like him to add third input. IMO they found a strong creative partner in Jack Blades. Neal and JSS also had amazing chemistry imo. Too bad we'll never know what a JSS/Schon/Cain Journey collaboration would have sounded like.

First call I would have made were I one Neal Schon and I was going to do a follow-up for Revelation.

Neal probably thought he'd hit gold with Pineda, as he now has someone he is taller than. I think he probably underestimated that Pineda would steal the show from him and be the center of attention. He probably doesn't like that too much. :P

Neal doesn't care about that. He seems to like sneaking out while the attention is on the others. I don't know about him when he's wasted, but I've found him to be pretty shy and I have never bothered to approach him. Neal just wants to play guitar and rock.

Nothing wrong with that either. And I do think collaborating with Blades again would be a good idea.

That's a very good question FamilyMan, and I'm surprised it's gone unanswered for this long.

"Could" also be that there is another song that they wrote together before Revelation being included in the new album and he isn't at liberty to discuss it until all things are put to bed. Traditionally, Jeremey has always been good with responding to people's questions on the board, so if he hasn't, I'd assume there's a very good reason why he hasn't. Never met him, but seems like a great dude!

I would call Jim Peterik and allow him to be the rhythm guitarist and co-lyricist/melody maker on 2 or 3 songs. Jack Blades writes good songs. Jim Peterik writes great songs.

If this album tanks, outside songwriters are going to be the furthest thing form Azoff's mind.
Look for a live album next time with two "New Song" bonus tracks and the landing gear slowly coming down after another 18 month tour of playing "The hits"

Beyond touring, I don't think Azoff cares what the band does.

I think Irving cares when he is the guy who has to line up distributors. Wal-Mart will agree to it this time because of Revelation's higher than expected sales numbers but if this release is shit, Azoff might tell the band to just stick to touring and forget the studio all together.

If the new album is as heavy as it sounds it isn't gonna sell much. The large majority of album buyers now are pop queens who can't handle anything harder than Justin Beiber.

How could "Never walk away"("be good to yourself 2") be in anyway considered magic in songwriting  and why would they bring back anyone who was a part of the songwriting on this hack job . The songwriting needs to move fowards, not backwards...never walk away may have had mild success only because it copied from a song from 86-87 that was popular and has that same familiarity as most raps songs nowadays.

Personally speaking, I never really saw the similarity between NWA and BGTY... To me, NWA was a quintessential Journey song - one I wish had been on Trial By Fire, and/or on par with any of the Augeri efforts. And my point was, if Journey was returning to the "legacy sound", then why not let Jeremey continue to contribute to that end.

Agreed but the mob here claimed it was basically a note-for-note copy of Be Good To Yourself, and so it became.

Get real....contributing a couple of lines and maybe a melody to a couple of songs is certainly not evidence that Jeremey was the missing element....hell, then again, Perry usually just contributed a theme or a phrase...
If they didn't feel he was the right choice for vocalist after hearing him sing for a week, why would they think they needed his song writing input after just a few lines?
What they have missed from Perry, if anything writing wise, is the woe is me/I lost her/I'm down and out...the other singers and Cain have apparently had good marriages and the relationship type songs have come from a content perspective. Jeremey would brought the same, not the sad perspective of Perry.
