Augeri Solo Show Cancelled

Followed a planned Philly date that was cancelled, it now appears that an upcoming Brazil show won't happen.
Not sure why (maybe someone can translate???).
Like Neal's Soul Sirkus project, SA may be learning the hard way that a connection to Journey isn't enough to fill seats.

The show is canceled at the request of the artist(Steve Augeri) himself because of family problems.

Thanks Ritchie. You speak Spanish? Nice work.

That makes sense since he was in Brazil just yesterday talking about the show.

Family problems, by the way, sounds about as credible as a "chronic throat infection."

It`s Portuguese but Spanish is a lot similar.
Had a Spanish speaking girlfriend and she learned me a lot more than only "Amor".

philly show was cancelled because the club closed down and is now reopened under new ownership i believe. they also feature just local bands.
tonight's show at blackmore's rock bar in sao paolo is a sellout.

That's good to hear. Hopefully, some YouTube footage will turn up.

Found these...

Stone in Love: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tTbb4AD9e-Y

A lot of crowd noise, but he sounds pretty good, at least from what you can hear since some will want to critique his performance to death.

Maria, you are correct. If you go to the club's website you can see that they are reopened trying to attract an entirely different clientele than those of us who would have been going to see Steve, or any other similar act for that matter.

He needs to leave the Journey stuff alone anyway. It's all but destroyed his voice. Whatever he has left, he needs to take good care of.

Rick, I am sure he would if he could, but his fans want to hear the Journey catalog when they see him, not just his other stuff. He's at least tuning down most of the J songs so he isn't straining as hard.

If he didn't sing the Journey songs I doubt he would sell many concert tickets.

Yeah, I guess so. His Tall Stories stuff had him working at the Gap. I've been listening to Arrival a lot lately. He's a hell of a singer.

The Journey legacy is kind of a curse, as it has some singers relying on it to make a living, at the expense of vocal health.

"Lights" sounds good. Like the intro to "Stone in Love" too. Like many tenors, Steve's ok on the slow tempo stuff, but the minute he switches to something like "Higher Place" the voice just sorta crumbles.

I thought SIL was pretty darn good. I hate Lights and don't care who's singing it, so I didn't listen to it. Checking out SW, ATL and HP now.

SW started out okay, but ended up a train wreck around the 5 minute mark. :?

Again, a lot for crowd noise, so don't hear the vocals all that well..

Jesus Christ ... he fucks up Ask The Lonely right off the bat and misses "Picking up the pieces, something more to believe in." It's never even sung! Thank God this was in a foreign country. They did notice, though. What started out as a nice sing along is halted when he fucks up the lyrics. Steve seems to be suffering from PTSD (post-traumatic stress disorder). He can't get through a song or two without a major gaffe. I think he's constantly worried about his voice and it's causing these embarrassing screw ups. I feel for the guy, but he's gotta pull it together, man. :?

He fumbled it on this 2002 boot too. Hey, remembering lyrics is hard. Maybe he should use on-stage monitors like Arnel?

He frequently messed up that line, oh well.

I would have no problem with that. However, to be fair, Arnel had a lot put on his plate in a very short period of time. I can see why he needed them. Steve started singing this song 13 years ago. Singers are always going to have gaffes, but I think Steve's are mental, more so than simply forgetting. He needs his confidence back, but I'm just not sure he'll ever find it again.

Steve Perry had his own troubles with lyrics also, especially at the beginning of the Escape Tour.

About the same as the others. SA handles the song for the most part, even goes for the big money notes, then some other guy joins him on stage to close out the song. Kinda sounds like Deen.

Not too bad. Accepting he doesn't sing like he did in 2001-2002 anymore. The audience noise isn't as loud so you hear him a bit better.
