Most of these older acts(Journey....etc) are missing the boat in exposing the U.S. to these up and coming bands....

for better or worse, Journey would have to partner with someone who has at least a small chance of bringing in some ticket sales. I believe that knocks out pretty much all of your options for the US. Europe might be different. The idea is good, however.

Agreed. It IS a nice idea. And too sophisticated for the disposable music listening lemmings of the U.S.....

Yeah. Joe Pub;lic doesn't give a shit about any of these bands and half the Journey audience probably doesn't even know where Europe is, let alone they even have electricity and bands there

Would love to see it....thankfully we here are better educated.

that's the problem. Journey's at the questionable point as to whether they really could go it alone and survive without another band helping for ticket sales. General thought on that is mostly...yes, but maybe not in some of the smaller markets. I don't think Night Ranger was helping much last tour, and they were certainly doing a pretty good job filling the local arena. Journey may not be able to fill the biggest arena in the area by themselves, but they could probably survive.

2nd point...does it really help to bring an unknown act on tour that doesn't even have a record deal in the US? Sure, it might be a better show, and they might convert some of the audience members, but if you can't find the cds after the show, and you will never hear them on the radio, that's a really expensive proposition just for charity.

Could it work in Europe and the UK where the cds from Melodic Rock Band X are readily available, and there is the slim possibility for radio airplay? Maybe. For example, taking someone like Gotthard (who appear to still be together) and packaging them with Journey or another large band as an opening slot across Europe might work. It exposes them to a larger audience than they can draw on their own, and then have them come back in 6 months for their regular smaller headlining tour. Hopefully, you will see increased crowds. It's still an expensive proposition for management, but you at least theoretically get some benefit out of the work.

No band is going to take an unknown band without a local record deal on tour however. It just doesn't make sense.

There's hardly a band left on the planet than can tour on their own steam at this point. Most bands are looking for packages to enhance sales in a rough economy.

They would do pretty good if they kept Styx and Foreigner for the whole tour and not just the UK.

I'd be ok with Foreigner, but having to see JY's ugly puss and that Canadian creep Gowan might keep me in the shitter for an hour. I'd rather collect cock hairs off of toilet seats than listen to Styx these days.

I would probably take a piss break too. They'd still sell a lot of tickets though. They should give Styx the boot and bring in Def Leppard again. That was a damn good show

Uh, ...bring in Def Leppard again? This is the same Leppard that when Shawn said he wanted to alternate closing the shows, told him, "Look you little jerry curl wearing, feet swingin' toilet sitter. You're opening EVERY show."

Journey is the bitch in the Journey Leppard relationship.

I agree that they were. But that was with Journeyoake (Augeri) and Baritone Journey (Soto). They're probably equal billing these days, so there's no sense in touring together. They're both headliners of big package bills.

No, they're probably not. A Perry-less Journey never will be. (unless Lep suffers a severe decline for some reason)

I'd say Journey with Perry would even surpass Leppard. Arnel is not a game changer like Perry. Not in the US at least.

(I know about the "sales" of Revelations. 2 cds plus a dvd for $8 or whatever it was...not at all impressive)

Journey and Def Leppard play the same sheds and Journey sold them virtually ALL out on the Revelation tour. I saw them 8 times and 4-5 of those 8 shows had 20,000+. Perry suffered through one tour and didn't even finish it ... in the last 25 years. He can't tour anymore. Hell, he was strugling to sing the songs in key in 1986. Last big tour for him without vocal problems or stopping the tour was 1983. I'd say he's done.

PS We'll see whose album does better this year ... DL's or Journey's.

Well we know Leppard's won't start out in the $4.99 bargain bin at Walmart.

I think it depends on if one of them does a Hindu version of progressive music. The one that does will alienate a large portion of their own audience. The one that releases a true rock album will sell.

This will be a flat out rocker. Period. I can't see any other scenario.
