I know. It's a great song. I love the guitar intro. The whole song is really sexy to me. Great lyrics and delivery by Arnel. And I love around 3:30 where it slows and builds back up again.

And Chain of Love is equally fantastic with the piano intro and Arnel's vocals are haunting and then Neal just blasts in. It sets the tone for the whole song.

What's really great is that we already know the studio versions are gonna sound phenomenal.

I'm pretty excited to hear how this album is going to turn out. I've broken my own promise not to watch the low-fidelity videos and wait for the album. I've heard City of Love and Resonate so far. I can't say I've loved them in the traditional Journey sense, but I can see this being an album I can really sink my teeth into as a guitar player... and I'm ok with that. I just wish I could hear more nuances in the songs from the YT videos, because I guarantee they are going to be out in full force on the record.

You're right about the nuances. Because I can see what TNC is talking about regarding Edge of the Moment and think that might be a track I come to really love. It's just hard even off Fabbest's better-sounding video on that song to hear it. But you get glimpses of it on the song in that video.

Oops wrong video. Replaced with Fabbest's video.

So far, these tracks are going to have to grow on me, because I am not feeling it.

I do want to thank Rip and Fabbest for posting such great videos, though. Great job on those.

I was ALMOST at that concert, but just couldn't make it happen. I've got to get unbusy. I don't like busy, don't do busy well, but have been so damn busy. I opted to go see my daughter in Norfolk, which was better than any concert. Even with all of you great people. The trip to Norfolk was for the greater good.

Glad you guys like our videos, and I've been doing the same - was even singing "Resonate" today. Spent about an hour between both videos hammering out the lyrics for the song, and they are really cool. I can't understand why anyone thinks these songs don't have hooks. They are all definitely sing-along worthy, still very melodic.

Rick, you should have been there with us! Family is very important, but must be taken in moderation, LOL!

I know. The hooks were definitely there for me immediately on Resonate and Chain of Love. Why don't you post the lyrics. I've been trying to figure out in a few places and just can't on Resonate. Understanding they're not official, just what you're hearing.

While there appears to be an abundance of love for the new music here and at the other two or three Journey fansites, there's a good chance that 95% of Journey's casual listening audience may feel a lot like you Rick when or if they hear the new music. The stuff here isn't really adult contemporary. Add to the fact that tracks are pretty legthy too, I'm wondering how much Radio play this stuff is going get. It will probably make its way to satllite radio but as that only makes up about 15% of overall listeners, this new direction Journey is going could be a tough sell. Granted the concerts won't suffer because they always have the dirty dozen but I think that their Van Hagar moment passed them by a long time ago.

I'll be checking out the new album as I think it may be in line with what I wanted as far as a musical change from Neal and company but I totally can see and understand why others will say screw it, this ain't Journey.

I thought Neal said he wasn't writing this album for the radio, that they never get played anyway on new music, save hearing AATY some.

Yes, Neal did say that but decisions about releasing singles is probably management's call. I think one reason AATY got more radio play than the other single WDILYL was the difference in track length. The former was 4 minutes long will the latter was five minutes, a BIG difference in the world of commercial radio. Resonate was the shortest running tune out of the five heard the other night and it was still over five minutes long. I'm just saying people who start clamoring for a single to be released might not understand that it's not going to be a cut and dry matter this time and that generating interest in Eclipse is probably going to have to come from a different marketing avenue.

I say screw the radio, this album wasn't made to be downloaded 'one song here' or 'one song there' but that's just me.

I bet Neil's band's record company loves hearing Niel talk about how he doesn't really care about writing ballads, hits or getting any radio airplay.

Neil is his own record company now days, he just isn't his own distributor.

Good points. I guess if they really wanted to release a single, they could do a radio edit for Resonate, which seems the mostly radio-friendly, from the ones we've heard and shorten it a bit. But maybe a ballad is on there that is shorter. I don't really see much radio play happening past Sirius and such.

I can see where these songs are going to be monster at the Graspop and Download festivals in Europe. They're going on tour for 2 years and exposing their old and new music to the rest of the world--I think they will be huge after the tour... No worries, lol..

Yes, not official, but my best guess so far from listening to 2 different videos, reading lips and body language, and examining possible words for fit in the context of the song. Many thanks also to eb2008 from the AP board for helping also. These, I'm pretty positive on about 90-95% of them. The only line that I don't feel confident about is the 3rd line in the 1st verse (marked in red). Feel free to give that one a go, because I think it's close but still doesn't fit perfectly.

RESONATE

VERSE 1
When I'm alone, I keep replaying
the day the love left your eyes
When I miss home
I swear on tired feet
Now
you said goodbye

PRE-CHORUS 1
Like a gentle wave you cross my mind
I lose myself, I lose all sense of time

CHORUS
Feel your presence all around me
On the same frequency
So our love can be
When we resonate, resonate
Even though we're miles apart
I reach for you and there you are
Pull the strings that move my heart
Resonate, resonate

VERSE 2
You call to me, you're in my dreams
You are my satelite
You make me feel sweet vibrations
We share endless nights

PRE-CHORUS 2
Think of me, I'm never far away
I hear your voice, I call your name

(REPEAT CHORUS)

BRIDGE (pre-guitar solo)
Through the distance
I send a message in the night
Finding each other
We share the same desire
Like a telegraph that'll reach between the heart
I reach out, and that's where you are

BRIDGE (post-guitar solo)
From the distance all around me
So our love can be

(REPEAT CHORUS)

Going by those lyrics, I guess that could pass as a ballad that got overhauled as part of Neal's new direction with the band.

We haven't heard even half the songs on the album yet. Any guesses about the rest as in even harder rockers, softer or perhaps ballads?
I wonder if there are more gems or if the bulk of the wad has already been shot with what we've heard so far?

I'm glad he had his way on this album, and I think it will be good for the band right now. But I definitely agree that it's a commercial risk, and for that reason I don't see him winning any such battle with the next album. They are simply going to have to let Jon slip a few in.

All radio edits are selling out as far as I'm concerned. I'll never be able to think of the term "radio edit" again without the abomination of Whitesnake's radio-friendly version of "Here I Go Again" popping into my head. Neutered in the guitar department, and cheesy keys added to please the pink-collar fans.
