Is it still Journey for you, or just Jour?

Back around 2008, right after Revelations came out, my family was visiting my dad's old college buddy, who happened to also like Journey. He, my dad and myself had a pretty lengthy conversation about the current line-up in comparison to the classic lineup with Steve Perry. My dad's friend affectionately said "the band's just "Jour" (pronounced "Jer") now without Steve Perry. He makes it "Jour-NEY"." Thus began the comedic game of bantering and teasing through out my family and the friend.

In fact, the man even mailed me a fake letter from Perry claiming the band was just a group of posers without him and came with a "signed" photo of Perry from the 80s. Best part was when my dad's friend posted the photoshopped version of the same picture with his face over Steve Perry's head.

But it all made me wonder how the folks here feel on the matter; Is the band still Journey to you? Or like my dad's friend, is it just "Jour" without Perry?

The band is still Journey because that's their title ...it's far
from the Journey I remember and it will never be the Journey
it was ...ever!! They are now the J~boyz!!

There was Journey before Steve Perry, and there was, and will continue to be, a Journey after Steve Perry.

 Sorry. The "Jour" thing is sorta stuck in my mind, thanks to my family forever echoing the term from my dad's old college buddy.

Yup, just a far inferior one, in both cases.

I don't understand how the word inferior gets used. The heyday for this kind of music, in general, has passed. I definitely wouldn't call Journey before Perry inferior, just different and maybe didn't have as wide of appeal. The genre changed with Perry.

I've been a huge Journey fan since 1981, and the Escape lineup will always be my favorite lineup of the band. Steve Perry is my second favorite singer of all time only slightly behind the singing of Jimi Jamison.

But I fully agree with Archetype's comment.

Their still Journey, only with someone other than Perry singing in the band.

Call me biased, but I'd have to disagree with you on that one.

Even if Perry has the better voice (which he admittedly did in the Infinity-era), I often cringe when I watch live videos of concerts from the Perry era. His stage presence wasn't all that great often times IMO. Of course, it's not all that necessary when you have such a wonderful voice, but when Arnel is able to sing splendidly and pull off a good stage presence, I have to pause before considering Journey after Perry to be inferior.

Both are wonderful singers, but I'll be honest and say that Freddie Mercury is at the top of my list for best frontman and voice.

Your idea of good stage presence is a tad different ...you must
require a lot of activity from your lead vox!! You should attend the NCA Nationals in
Dallas or UCA Nationals in Orlando ...you'll get what you're
looking for!!

 Nah, not exactly. I don't demand much from singers except a good voice. I don't deny that I prefer it when a singer commands the stage physically like Arnel, but again, I listed Freddie Mercury as my favorite frontman. He knew how to physically command the stage without overdoing it like Arnel has done so in the past.

My issue with Perry's stage presence was that awkward, "inner boogie dance" (as I call it) he sometimes did. But again; the Voice more than made up for it.

You'll have to excuse me while I write your ignorance off to youth, which
normally doesn't matter, but in this case does because I know you were never there ...trust me when I say
panties were wet, off and on the stage before Perry ever got there ...Arnel don't do that, son!!!
He can, however, jump higher and run faster!!

After I saw them on the tour JSS replaced Augeri (I saw an Augeri show) I don't care what they call themselves because I won't go see a Journey concert again unless Perry is singing.

The show I saw was in Scranton and Augeri sucked majorly in that show. Dude was ducking notes left and right and needed Castronovo to bail him out in most song. This right after tapegate. I don't trust those fuckers anymore and refuse to support them live anymore because of it.

With rock concerts I don't enjoy wasting money with bands. If a band sucks or puts on a shitty performance I won't go about and support said band again live. I'll check out the new released music, but the days of me spending $40+ on a concert ticket are done.

Winning what?!?

If you're a fan of the lineup and the music they are producing
that's winning ...certainly you don't need a poll to validate
your musical pleasures?!?!

What this poll tells me is that there are a lot of votes from
people who don't post ... :?
