Are you fans from the past when Journey was Journey and at the height of their career, are you new fans? Again, I am trying but just need help?

I met a good friend back in 1993. At that time she was a huge Journey fan, and of course I was too. In fact, we planned to see Steve Perry during his FTLOSM tour. That fell through for various reason...We traded a lot of music back and forth, Journey related and not. She was a great friend.
We ended up losing contact in the late 90's...just as the Perry/Augeri thing was happening. We reconnected again through Facebook and talk often, have lunch once in a while...and we are even better friends then we were back then. I still forward her various Journey related news and such...the last thing we talked about was my telling her about Def Lep/Heart coming to town...and about the Journey album and tour.
Her response was that she was so over Journey that she had no interest in the album/tour. But, Def Lep/Heart....now that is something she doesn't want to miss...especially Heart.
Now, understand, this is from somebody who had JRNYFAN license places, and was a big a fan as anybody on this, or any other, forum. Nowadays, she just doesn't care. I'm sure she thinks that it's kinda neat in a nostalgic kinda way to see DSB in some movie or whatever. I just think she has no respect for the bands decisions since 1995, or their musical choices. She once told me that she has to have some respect for an artist on a personal level to REALLY appreciate what they do...and I think she has lost that respect for Journey.
I think people 'hold on to their fandom because they ignore all the BS that surrounds the band. All they care about is getting some new music, or the buzz of a concert...and of course I'm sure most of us do get a bit of a kick of their favorite band from 30yrs ago is still around making new music and touring.
Neither is a bad thing, IMO. It takes all types.
