General Ticket Question

Postby Intell » Thu Apr 07, 2011 11:22 pm

I am going to a concert alone. Currently I can get a fan seat in the 14th row, center section. $160.00 ish.

If this was your scenario would you wait and try day of show to get a better single at same price or less, or would you buy the guaranteed ticket now?

Additional note- I already have ILAA for the concert the day before and it is probably front row dead center, so I will have already had the best seat in the house once for this tour (other than back stage) :)

Would LOVE some input.

Thanks!

I would recommend waiting until a week or two before the show and finding a single on Ticketmaster/Live Nation. I was in your position for a show on the 2009 leg of the Revelation Tour. I went to Louisville by myself for the show with Heart, and I found a front-row center ticket that popped up on Ticketmaster a few days before the show. I was sitting in the middle of the people who paid the ILAA prices, and my ticket cost me $55.

Yeah, I'm guessing this result isn't typical. But man, was it sweet.

Thanks for the input. I may just wait. I have never really planned on attending a show without a ticket, but I may just risk it. Could turn out in my favor, and if not, oh well. I am sure I will meet some great people again there anyway!

Just start hounding Ticketmaster starting about two weeks before the show. They'll start releasing good seats that are unsold leading up to the show - unused radio station giveaways, seats the band has reserved, unsold ILAA tickets, etc. It will take some luck, but you shouldn't have to head to the venue without a ticket. You should be able to find a great single before the day of the show.

being a single, its alot easier to get a better seat late, and held tickets are released the closer it gets to the show

You can also keep an eye on CraigsList. There always seems to be someone with great tickets that for some reason can't go to the show and trys to sell them instead. You do have to be careful dealing on CraigsList, of course, but I've done it many times.

I was in New Jersey for work a few years ago, during the Revelations tour, and Journey and Heart happened to be playing.
After work I drove to the venue, and ended up getting a ticket in the front row for face value, during Heart, I was DIRECTLY IN FRONT of the lovely Nancy Wilson!!!
My guess is that the band released either comp or ILAA tickets that were not being used.
It's kind of a roll of the dice, but you stand a better chance getting a CHOICE seat, if you are buying a single ticket. Since most tickets are purchased in blocks, there are usually a few single seats in various rows, usually close to the front.
At least that has been my experience.
