Journey needs to take a few lessons from this. An amazing stage show would compliment the awesome new music so well.

Forever Today

The intro is so awesome that Tiesto doesn't even come out until 6:15, and then it just turns into absolute euphoria.

I've said it for a while now that Journey really needs to up the ante on some of their stage production to show people that they are the headliner for a reason. Okay, so people saw Night Ranger and Foreigner to lead things off. Journey should make people forget about those two bands as soon as the house lights go down and the first two notes are played. I'm not saying they need to shoot off fireworks or zip-line down from the rafters, but do something to prove to people that you are going to take over the show.

I'll never forget on the Journey/Def Leppard tour, Neal and Jonathan walked out to do the national anthem, and Neal waved to the crowd and then started playing. Yes, walked out from backstage, WAVED, and started their show. Ridiculous.

Showing video of the band huddling up backstage on the Revelation Tour, like on the 2001 Arrival DVD, was a step in the right direction.

Having Perry come out to sing a song or two would raise the motherfucking roof....oh, and less Arnel, and more instrumentals from the first 3 albums would go a long way too.....

Instrumentals from the first three albums would be cool.

For about 5% of the audience. You would see people falling asleep. Yes, I would be part of that 5%.

And how exactly is that different from when they play non-D12 songs again?

Audiences seem to be really getting into the Eclipse material. We'll see.

I would LOVE: The music gets louder, louder, louder then absolute silence and pitch darkness. Then an electronic song similar to the one at the start of the Vegas 2001 video, but with a fast, driving beat. A few medium sized explosions, and four big dragon's breath flamethrowers along the rear of the stage. Builds up, builds up, builds up, and then dead silence. Jonathan does the synth intro to Separate Ways, and then as soon as the rest of the band comes in, enough pyro goes off to make the audience think that an atomic weapon was just detonated. Then scattered pyro and lighting effects thoughout the set. Maybe some lasers too.

One way to get the crowd amped up for the intro to the concert is to utilize your video screens properly.

Or you can be very subtle about it but still keep the crowd transfixed other ways.

I saw Iron Maiden last summer on their Final Frontier tour in Pittsburgh; they had a pretty good intro.

I have said this for years! Journey's stage design is boring. Year after year I think maybe they will actually soak some money into bringing a unique stage set up and lighting design, but every year its the same boring setup. Even the simple, but unique Raised on Ridio concert stage design with the moving triangular screens that changed colors was cooler than what they have now.

Journey needs to pick up their game in that department.

They seem to have some sound issues the last few tours, maybe they need to revamp everything and everybody and start from scratch.

Yeah! Good point.

I must be old - I don' get 'concerts' like this :? (although it is an incredibly awesome stage show/setup). I watched some of his other live videos - I guess it's like being a giant dance club. Now, combine something like that with actual musicians and singing and you got yourself a winner!

While "live" music isn't actually playing, mixing songs so perfectly is much more difficult than it seems. Also, it looks like a blast to be there. It's unfortunate that trance/progressive isn't big enough in the United States to have events like this. I hope to catch a few while I am living in St. Petersburg this fall.

I'm sure it is difficult, and it does look like something that would be pretty cool to experience. Definitely 'event' is a better term than 'concert' to describe something like this, though.

It seems like after Perry left, the stage designs and lighthing setup have gotten really simple and average.

Good point. Even Herbie admitted that Perry forced him to get inventive with concert video screens.

I'm just curious what the fans would do when Perry left the stage. Would they boo Arnel then and chant for Perry to come back out?

Arnel keeps them in a niche demographic...Perry gets them instant credibility, and paid. Like someone stated earlier. I don't think the concert-going public would care if Perry couldn't hit all the notes like it was 1983. Him being on stage would be enough....The only people that seem to care about his vocal quality are the AP ballwashers....and then there's RIP....

Rip's one of the best guys I've ever met from this board. I spent half a day wandering Las Vegas boulevard with him and his wife. We had a great time.

Edit: My wife and I spent the first half of that day wandering the same boulevard with Deano and Lula. That was a great time as well. :)

The concert going doesn't care if Perry is around or not either...Journey draws just fine without him.

You act like the world is waiting for Perry...The world is not...ONLY hardcore Journey fans do.

Care to run the numbers on the average Journey fan VS the hard core loons?
