Homage to Escape on new album?

Postby youkeepmewaiting » Sun Apr 17, 2011 11:37 pm

I forget what song it is at the moment but on Arrival Schon played a little bit of the WCN solo as homage to 20 years since Escape. Reckon there could be a similar thing on Eclispe at some point?

I know they have gone in a new direction a bit but I think it would still work just a couple of notes from a song or two possibly.

I think the spelling of ECL1PS3 is a little hint toward that.

Interesting interpretation. Some fans said it was his way of rubbing salt in the eyes of Perry, saying, in effect, that the band soldiers on without you and you’re the one now crying about it. And then there were others who simply wrote it off as Neal being not very creative.

Yes; I agree...

And, also the "Scarab-covering-something-over" Artwork...?

They were "Escape"ing something....now, they want to "Eclipse" it....?

Yeah, well IF Perry's the one who's crying now, he'll be lovin', clutchin' and squeezin' his wallet while he's doing it.

We all know that Neal can be very lazy creatively, but this was what? 9 years ...
9 years and all Cain saw was a guy who wanted his band back !! I find it hard to believe that Schon
sat around for nine years drowning his sorrow and being uncreative. It must be the former, because
we also know that Schon is an immature little cry baby who has to at least pretend like
he's handling business like a man!!

Why can't it just be a nice little nod toward their past. In the case of Signs of Life, what are we talking about, a bar or two of a solo. No everything has to be a slight against Perry or some sort of dig at Schon (uncreative).

I think it is cool that they do that kind of thing. Yes, it can be over done, but just a small guitar lick here or lyric there is not overdoing it or being uncreative.

Un-freaking believable

Indeed. I have never once considered it to be anything more than a nod to Escape and something to give the fans a little smile. And also maybe a unintentional marketing to a few fans to pick up the album who may be interested in hearing it. A bit like when Europe did their Journey nob on their second to last album

I don't start Perry/JSS shit in any thread. But I will give my opinion on the subject, just like you do. Difference is, I don't have the incessant need to comment on every single post in every thread in which the Perry/Schon debate comes up. Or belittle people's innocuous comments such as those you quoted above.

Common sense, without an agenda or bitterness, tells you it's just a nod.

Unfortunately, 20 years ago there was bitterness, so no you/we really don't know that!!
TNC's listed scenarios make perfect sense!!
Now the Eclipse lettering on the LP today, that seems like a nod!!

It may very well be "a nice little nod toward their past." Not to be the gatekeeper of Journey online history or anything, but most fans online argued it was prolly an intentional jab at Perry. Given the band's vindictive streak (what does NOMOTA stand for again???), I wouldn't doubt it.

Who gives a flying fuck if it even was a jab. Maybe he deserved it a little.

I think all the behind-the-scenes backbiting is pretty interesting stuff myself. It's about time something, anything, ruffled up Journey's squeaky clean housewife-music image.

I think they are probably right about that. I'm sure the name Eclipse has a little bit of a jibe at Perry too, suggesting that his memory has been eclipsed.
