A Quick Journey Story

Today I have decided to attend the Journey/Night Ranger/Foreigner concert at the Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The show is on September 13, 2011.

This isn't really significant to many people - except me. The reason it is significant is that on September 13, 1980.... 31 years ago to the day, my eldest sister was tragically killed in a car accident on her way home from a concert... Journey... she attended in Munich, Germany. The concert will be a little more special to me than many others. It may not be the same lineup, but it will be mostly the same music she enjoyed just before her life ended. So for the first time in 31 years, I will celebrate the memories I have. I know it doesn't matter much in the grand scheme of people on this forum, but I wanted to share that little bit of the demons I hope I can help exorcise that night.

And yes. I am staying in a Nashville hotel that night and not driving home, even though I live in nearby Murfreesboro.

I'm so sorry for your loss. And how surreal that the date is the same and Journey. You seem to be approaching that date and choosing to go in a very positive way. I hope you have a great time.

Thanks for sharing this, sorry for your loss. It's like it's meant for you to be there, a show so close to you and on that date.
I'll be there as well, though I have to travel considerably further.

Stories like yours really serve to put things in their proper perspective. My sympathies for your loss and the profoundly dark memories which were instantly and forever thrust upon any discussion or thinking about a Journey concert. Hopefully, your upcoming show will be exactly what you've needed all these years to bring closure and peace to you. God bless!

Steve

May God give you an awesome night and the strength to get over this loss! You might think that's not significant, but it means a lot for me and for others.
I attended a Journey concert last month in Sao Paulo. It was my father's birthday. He passed away in 93' at the age of 50...so it was the first time in 18 years that I celebrate this date with joy.

Sorry to hear about that loss... and I hope Journey brings you joy and happiness as it has for me through the good and bad.

Murfreesboro, huh?! I wanna shout out to your town! I was there in April with my school band making a long journey from southern Ontario to Tennessee. We played Bradley Academy while we were there... I must say it's a nice town, and the kids at the Academy were a great crowd. By the way, I sang Separate Ways.
