What ever happened to Blu-ray Edition of Manila concert?

Did interest wane? I notice that despite debuting at #1, The Manila DVD hasn't been certified gold yet (The band's other three DVD releases have all reached Platinum or better). Did sales tank after the first month or something?
The price difference between DVD and Blu-ray isn't that much anymore (10 dollars, maybe?). Hell, Disney bundles both versions together with a lot of their newer films (along with a digital copy for mobile devices)
So, what's the deal here? They show the concert quite a bit on Palladia but not everyone gets that channel. Why not let Wal-Mart sell a limited edition disc and see how it goes?

I think after an initial push, Walmart just doesn't care to follow through. I never see the dvd in their stores in this area anymore. And often no copies of Revelation, though they always have a few Greatest Hits on hand. Even clicking on the DVD link on Journey's site takes you to the Walmart site where you find out it is out of stock. Walmarts in this area have drastically downsized their music sections over last year or so.

I brought this up in another thread but don't be surprised if they reduce it even further or even eliminate that section and only offer music through their website only. Music only accounts for 2% of their sales and with the company bringing back firearms to a bunch of their stores, they might need to cut floor space in under performing departments.

Maybe because the production on that DVD sucks so bad that not even blu-ray can save it

That's a shame. That concert was an important part of Journey's history with Arnel. Too bad nobody cared enough
about it to release a quality work.

It really is abysmal. I still can't believe how disappointing it was. I was so disappointed watching that DVD the first time through. I got it out a year later to see if time would prove kind to it, but that was no dice. It's just not a good presentation/product.

I didn't realize just how bad it was until I stayed in New York for my job and the house had a nice surround sound system. Wow ... pretty brutal. I put in the Revelation DVD and it was
much better. I'll tell you what, man, they got it right, though. Save the Blu Ray DVD for
this tour. Arnel is singing
extremely well and we'll have some new Eclipse songs on there as well. The Manila show was a great show with an awesome set list, but it wasn't DVD worthy. But I'll let it slide because of the nice price. But in the end, it really amounts to nothing more than a pretty good bootleg.

Journey, for all their talent and resources, consistently falls short on their marketing and quality of productions. I don't get it.

Man, I agree 100%. I was so excited to pick it up because of the great set list, but it was a big let-down. I think I watched it twice, and then I put it in a couple of weeks ago like you did. Not any better. Compare that with the 2001 Arrival DVD, which I could still watch weekly. That is a great DVD.

Yup, set list was really great. I was so stoked to have rarer songs like WYLAW documented on DVD.... and then the production is just horrendous. Gimme 2001 DVD any day.

I know the import Blu-ray of that concert is just an overpriced up-scaled version of the DVD but since the band did record it in Super HD (or whatever it's called) can't they get a studio guy here to fix it up properly for a domestic release?

I've thought about getting it, but it is pricey.

What bugged me about the DVD was how much they cut out the crowd, you can even hear them. Jonathan looked like he's just going through the motions, Ross was too afraid to leave the back of stage and Deen looked like one of those kids from the Save the Children commercials. I was starting to wonder if he relapsed or something.

I was unfortunate enough to run across the station while they were airing it. Could only get through a couple of songs. Reminded me of why I have no desire to see the band live again. Yawn!
I look at people in the audience singing/dancing to the same old songs no matter how horrible they sound kinda like I look at the adult fools that stand and do the chicken dance at sporting events!!!
